3 Things I do to avoid Lockdown blues

Hey my loves,

I don’t know about you but I am so over this whole pandemic life. I literally just want to go outside and do something fun with my friends and have a nice little holiday. But, that seems so out of reach and to avoid getting to sad or depressed about the situation I have found a few things I like to do to feel like I am doing something. Obviously it is so important to social distance and follow the rules that apply in your country, but these are things I am pretty sure you are allowed to do nearly everywhere.

No.1 : Make sure to have a routine.

Mindsets, habits and routines are the building blocks for success toward your wellness goals.

In the beginning of this pandemic I thought why have a set routine it does not matter. Well, let me tell you: It sure does. Having a set routine changed my whole mindset and made me realize that I can keep busy while social distancing and having everything that is somewhat fun closed. I even wrote a little entry a while ago, so make sure to check it out: Getting back into a routine during Lockdown

A routine is different for everybody. You have to find what works for your lifestyle. Ask yourself these questions:

  • What do I want to achieve with my routine?
  • When do I have time for this routine or is my routine a time management skill?
  • Is my routine the same every day?
  • Why is it important to me to have a set routine?
  • What is my lifestyle? Are you working from home? Are you a student?

As soon as you get answers to these questions you can start to create your routine. For me, my routine changes throughout the week and months. For instance, I recently started a new job, am writing a paper and am on my semester break for at least five more weeks. On the days I work from home I like to give myself a little around an hour to get ready, set everything up and eat breakfast. On days I go into the office I get up, get ready and eat all in around 30 to 45 minutes, just because I like being ready and out faster. On days I do not work I like to sleep a little bit longer and take an hour to an hour and a half to myself in the morning. I do little chores right away in the morning and make sure to check of any to do’s that involve my apartment. I also use the off-days to write a blog entry and mostly I use my days of to work for my paper. Sundays are my free time day, if I have something I need to get done I’ll do it, but if it can wait until Monday than I won’t. I let myself sleep in, go for a walk, self care and watch movies.

No.2 : Learn something new.

Learning is forging new connections. Every time you learn something new, your brain physically changes.

Dr. Joe Dispenza

I love to learn and I love to educate myself on new topics. In the beginning of the pandemic I made it a goal of mine to learn a lot about the field I want to work in as well as use every opportunity my Uni offers which help me add more skills to my CV. I recently visited a Workshop about intercultural project management and it was not just fun but also so informative. I can highlight recommend doing this. Find something to do that is new and exciting to you, there are so many offers online that are free.

For example, if you like to learn more about marketing Google offers a great free program: Basics of Online Marketing

Here you can even get a certificate at the end which you could add to your CV. But mostly I would look what your university offers, those are mostly included and are free too.

No. 3: Go for walks.

Some beautiful paths can’t be discovered without getting lost.

Erol Ozan

With gyms mostly closed and home workouts getting boring I love to go for a walk with a friend (where I live we are allowed to see one person that does not live in the same household). And let me tell you, fresh air and sun on your skin feels so good, especially when you’ve been inside most of the day.

A couple of days I went on a 7km walk with a friend. We went to a walking trail not too far from where I live and it was such a beautiful day. I had muscle pain the next day but it was definitely worth it. I had so much fun and we were able to catch up a lot. It’s also super nice just to explore parts of your own city. You can always google or ask friends and family for recommendations or just start walking and see where you end up.

What are you doing to keep yourself busy? Do you have any new things you are doing now? I would love to connect with you and chat.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Getting back into a routine during Lockdown

Hey my loves,

I don’t know about you, but I had enough of this whole pandemic. But what can you do, right? Well, in the past couple of months I have been through all of the emotions. I felt sad, depressed, happy to have some time at home, emotional, blessed that so far, I haven’t gotten the virus and so much more. Especially the first few months were horrible. I am so dependent on seeing my friends, I have to see them at least once a week as well as my granny and all of them I couldn’t see. It was hard, but I got through it. We got through it.

As of Monday, we will go back into a light version of a lockdown, which means again a little more restraint and a lot less contact to people. I am also fully back at Uni (online) and am working (home office), so I spent a lot of time by myself in my apartment. But I’ve gotten a pretty good routine down, I would say. And I think even though we tend to stray from a routine with so much time at home, I truly think having a routine is the best. Especially for people, like me, who struggle.

I have a pretty busy schedule, all in all I have nine courses for Uni, and I work around seven hours, I also visit my grandma once a week to take care of anything she needs and to spend some quality time with her. So, my days a pretty packed, which is why it is important to have a structure.

Here is what I do:

I like to get up one hour or two before my day gets started with work or Uni. If I have gone to bed late or had troubles falling asleep, I sometimes only give myself like 45 minutes to get my day started, but that’s just a personal choice. Do what you prefer and are used to. If I hadn’t showered in the evening, I usually do this first thing in the morning. I don’t know about you, but I just can’t eat right away, especially with being home I don’t feel hungry at all. After some time in the bathroom, where I tend to at least somewhat comb through my hair and sometimes do a little bit of makeup to make myself feel better (all this heat from the radiator is messing with my skin), I like to get dressed in comfy bottoms and a big sweater and some fuzzy socks.

Some of my favorite loungewear items for a cozy work day:*

  1. Ripped PJ’s
  2. Hogwarts Hoodie
  3. Glitter Socks

*Not affiliated. Just recommendations.

One thing I like to do right away getting out of bed is pulling up all the blinds and open my windows to get some fresh air into my apartment. I usually leave it open until I get a bit cold, which is usually around like two to three hours. After my time in the bathroom I go into the kitchen to make myself a hot tea or coffee, whatever I feel like that morning, and I also get some water. If by then I am hungry I will make myself a somewhat big breakfast, since I usually just snack during Lunch (no matter what I eat, warm food or salad, I get sluggish). I’m currently obsessed with cucumber and cream cheese, so I usually snack on that.

I usually have pretty good plan on what I have to do each day and also what I can do each day. Wednesday is my longest Uni day, which is why I usually just take part in the classes and actually use the breaks in between to move around and relax. It’s so important to get some movement in your day if you sit long hours at your desk, like I do. Besides making sure I move around I also like to call my grandma during lunch hours to just chat with her. If the weather allows it, I also like to go for a walk around the neighborhood to get some fresh air.

Something I didn’t do in the first lockdown is something I changed very quickly: I set myself on a time limit. It is so easy to just keep going with work, Uni stuff or something else, but taking time off is equally as important. So, I like to end my workday around 6 or 7 pm, if possible. That way I have enough time to cook and relax and take time for my nighttime skincare routine. It is so important to set yourself boundaries or else you’re constantly working and that is not healthy. It’s good to be productive and active during lockdown, but you cannot forget that this whole situation is still very stressful and emotional. It’s okay to take time for yourself.

Three Tips if you’re feeling stressed:

  1. Get out. Go for a walk. Listen to music or not. And just breathe.
  2. Workout. Something I haven’t been doing as much as I should, but it helps. There are so many great workouts you can do from home now.
  3. Talk to your family and friends about something else but Covid and work. It’s so important to keep up with the people you love when you cannot see them as much.

I also have to admit that my eating habits were so bad in the first lockdown and I felt not only my skin changing, but also my moods. That’s what I probably changed the most: I incorporate a lot of healthier foods and time slots for eating than I did before and I not only have more energy, but I also feel a lot better about myself.

Taking care of myself doesn’t mean “me first.” It means “me, too.” – L.R. Knost

All in all, take each day as it comes. There is no have to or must’s, you can only try to do your best each day. I hope this entry helps you out a little and I am always open to a conversation in the comments or my Instagram direct messages.

I wish you all a wonderful day!

My Evening Skincare Routine

Hey my loves,

in today’s blog post I thought I share my evening skincare with you. In the past couple of weeks I tried out a couple of new things and I thought I could share them with you since I really learned to enjoy some of the new steps I added.

Taking My Makeup Off

On a day to day base I usually wear some makeup, which obviously I have to take off before I cant properly clean my face. And while I used an oil before I now switch to the L’Oréal Paris Fine Flowers Cleansing Cream. And it breaks up my makeup so much smoother and leaves my skin feeling so much more moisturized and cared for than the oil ever did. I use a small amount of it and rub it all over my face using my hands, and to take the product completely off I use a makeup wipe and just wipe down my face. The makeup wipes I am currently using are the Garnier Micellar Water Wipes.

Cleansing

When I finished taking my makeup off I usually go in with a new makeup wipe and make sure everything is gone. Then I wet my face and use a soap. The face soap is a gel formula by L’Oréal Paris, it is the L’Oréal Paris Fine Flowers Cleansing Wash Gel. And after I massaged the soap onto my face I used my Braun Face 852 (similar one) with the sensitive brush and cleanse my skin in circular motion.

Face Mask

About two times a week I will use a face mask and lately I’ve been loving the L’Oréal Paris Pure Clay Blemish Rescue Face Mask. It just really helps to clear up my skin and I love the feeling of my skin after I used it. Review blog post coming up real soon!

Moisturizing

When I’m done using my cleansing brush, I wash off everything and use my towel and pad my face dry. And lastly I moisturize using my L’Oréal Paris Triple Active Night Cream.

Do you guys have any suggestions for eye creams and toners? I turned 26 this past November and I feel like I need to start taking real good care of my skin. Also, would you like me to do a morning skincare routine, I use some different products in the morning. And also, just a small disclaimer, this blog post is not sponsored at all –  I just love L’Oréal skincare products so much!

I wish you all a wonderful day!

My Skin Care Routine – Spring/Summer 2016

Hey my loves,

today I’m sharing my updated spring/summer skincare routine with you. I did an entry like this last year if you want you can check them out here: My Morning Skin Care Routine – Spring 2015 and My Evening Skin Care Routine – Spring 2015!

But now onto my new and updated skin care routine, I won’t be splitting this entry into two, simply because I don’t think it’s necessary. But I do hope that you enjoy this entry and if you do, make sure to give it a thumbs up and feel free to share it on your social media!

Morning Routine

My morning skin care is quick, because I rather spent time on my make-up and hair then on my skincare. To cleanse my face I use a wash creme based on clay, I use a drugstore brand called ‘Alverde’, it clears your pores and has an antibacterial effect. It’s especially targeting blemished skin and works against pimples and blackheads. Also I have to mention that ‘Alverde’ is a nature cosmetics brand, so everything they use in their products is way better for you than most of the chemical things other brands put in their products. I can just speak for my experience that my skin cleared up pretty good with these products, but as you will see later I also have other non-nature based products in my routine, you just have to find the right mix of products that work for you.

After I use the wash creme I am continuing with the face tonic and last but not least to bring back some moisture into my skin I use my trusted and loved L’Oréal Paris – Hydra Active 3 Day Moisturiser. And to moisturize my lips I use my favorite EOS – Lip Balm in Pomegranate Raspberry.

Here are some products that are similar to what I am using:

Evening Routine

In the evenings I like to take my time with my skin. Firstly, I take of all my make up using a cleansing wipe. I use different ones all the time, but manly Garnier wipes are my favorite, especially: Garnier – Micellar Extra Gentle Cleansing Wipes But currently I’m trying out these: Garnier – Clarifying Cleansing Wipes for oily skin. To remove my eye make up I use an oil based cleanser from a drugstore, it’s literally the best I’ve tried so far. When all my make up is removed I like to give my skin a light peeling using Neutrogena – Visibly Clear fine and matte skin refining peeling. I also use the toner from my morning routine again after that.

Two to three nights in a week I use a mask and lately I’ve been loving the Cattier – Masque Argile Green Clay and after that I use the Clinique – Anti-Blemish Solution and then for my moisturiser the Clinique – Turnaround Moisturiser. To moisturize my lips I’m using the EOS – Lip Balm in Pomegranate Raspberry again. (Currently trying out the Clinique products to see if I like them more than my L’Oréal moisturiser.)

Here are some products that are similar to what I am using:

I hope I could give you a good overview over my skin care routine. And if you enjoyed this entry make sure to let me know and as always if you have any questions or suggestions for me comment.

I wish you all a wonderful day!
