My Lockdown Makeup Routine perfect for Zoom Calls

Hey my loves,

Zoom, WebEx, Skype and Microsoft Teams have become a big part of our everyday lives, at least that’s how it is for me. Just because of work, I’m on at least one video call a week, and when university starts up again, I’m on almost every day.

If I’m honest, I did without makeup-free at the beginning of the pandemic. However, due to some private changes in my life and the very real mask acne, I just feel a bit fresher when I make a little effort and put on makeup. My routine has changed so much, simply by wearing far less makeup than before and also using completely different it.I also try to pay so much more attention to my skincare routine as well to keep my now more dry than combination skin moisturized.

If you’d like, I can share my updated skincare routine in an upcoming post. Let me know in the comments!

My Makeup Routine for Video Calls

Base
I like to start with a primer because I find my foundation just lasts so much better and just looks better too. I like to use The Ordinary’s primers: High-Spreadability Fluid Primer and High-Adherence Silicone Primer. I find both amazing! If I need a lot of moisture, I also use the setting spray Bare with me Multitasking Spray from NYX.

Foundation
I tend to alternate between two products. However, lately I use Catrice True Skin Hydrating Foundation, it lasts really long and is very covering. I don’t know about you, but I find it kind of wasteful to use my IT Cosmetics CC Cream every day when I’m not seen in real life. Therefore, I use the drugstore foundation from Catrice. And for its price, it’s great! I can only recommend.

Concealer
My dark circles have been terrible lately, which is why I’m literally soaking up concealer right now. I really want to try the caffeine solution from The Ordinary, I’ve heard really good feedback from it. Well, so for my concealer I use either Maybelline Fit ME! Concealer or Catrice True Skin High Cover Concealer it depends a bit on how dark my circles are. My Maybelline concealer is much lighter, which is why I mostly use it with the concealer of Catrice.

Powder
For my setting powder, I still use my trusted Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Setting Powder. However, I would like to go back to a drugstore variant here too because, as with foundation, it just feels wasteful to use the “good, expensive” powder. Get it?

Blush
I have a four blush palette from Nip+Fab which is great, I usually tend to go for the more muted color and apply that not only to my cheeks but also a bit to my nose. I’ve seen that once on TikTok and found that looked super cute. Tip: You should not go back into the blush but simply use what is left on the brush.

Bronzer
I must confess, most days I skip bronzer, but when I’m in the mood to bring a little warmth to my face, then I use my Benefit Hoola Bronzer. But is it really just me, or do we all need a long super sunny vacation to get a little more tanned?

Eyes and eyebrows
I usually skip eyeshadow completely, especially dark colors make you look even more tired and worn out than you actually are. I am lucky enough to have relatively full eyebrows, which is why eyebrow mascara is usually enough. I use here my fave: L’Oréal Paris Brow Artist Plump & Set Serum. For my lashes I am currently trying a few new mascaras, but my favorite is L’Oréal Paris Unlimited Very Different Waterproof mascara in black.

Lips
I spend a lot of time indoors at my desk and with the current season my heating runs often, which makes my skin and my lips very dry. I therefore tend to use more lip balms or lip glosses. My two favorites at the moment are: Maybelline Lifter Gloss Lip Gloss and Urban Decay Vice Lip Chemistry.

Setting Spray
To set my makeup I use Bare with me Multitasking Spray from NYX. But I also am gonna try a new one from L’Oréal Paris soon (Infaillable Magic Setting Spray Transparent). I don’t really use the setting spray for longevity but much more to freshen up and hydrate my now powdered face.

Has your routine changed since the pandemic began? Let me know in the comments.

How to apply your makeup for an online job interview

Hey my loves,

In today’s blog post I am going to talk a little about how to apply your makeup for an online job interview. In this pandemic everything is happening a little different and that includes the job world a lot.

A video chat call can easily make you look washed out and pale because of the quality of your webcam. I will give you some tips on how to avoid look pale and instead look glowing, awake and ready to tackle anything.

STEP-BY-STEP TO THE PERFECT MAKEUP LOOK

Step One – Skincare

Skincare is a must for a good makeup look. Stick to products your skin knows and do not try anything new in the week leading up to the interview. Make sure your skin is moisturized and peeled for a glowing finished look.

Step Two – Primer

A good primer helps your skin to protect in from the products you are going to put on your face, but it also helps with the makeup be a lot long-lasting. If you are unsure what kind of primer to use ask your local cosmetic studio to help you out. But, generally speaking if your skin is more on the dry side you should use a moisturizing primer, if your skin is more on the oily side you should use a primer that is mattifying and if your have combination skin use a prima that is water based.

Step Three – Base

Use a product you already know whether it being a foundation, BB Cream or CC Cream. Make sure to blend down the product on your neck. I would suggest using a product that evens out the skin down but doesn’t look and feel to heavy on your skin. I personally love using the IT Cosmetics CC Creme.

If you have skin blemishes or acne you can use concealer in your skin tone to conceal them, but I would suggest if the blemish is just raised and not red to not put any concealer on it, because it does draw attention to it rather than away.

Before you apply any other products unless they are cream based, you should set your base with a translucent powder. Focus the product on your t-zone that is where we tend to get the oiliest throughout the day.

Step Four – Blush, Contour and Highlight

To get back some color and dimension back to your face we need to add color, shade and light. To shape your face you need to contour, you can use the three method which ist basically follow the line of a three on the outer part of your face with a contour powder. To get a little warmth and a nice summer glow you can also a a bronzer to the hollows of your cheek.

Use a blush that is not like a hot pink use something that is a little bit more natural. If you do want to use highlighter stay away from glittery products, instead of a shimmery product you could also use a powder that is two to three shades lighter than your skin color.

Step Five – Eyebrows and Eyes

The eyebrows are refereed to as the frame of the face so we cannot forget about them. If you are blessed with full eyebrows use an eyebrow mascara to shape them. If you have sparse eyebrow hair or want to change the form a bit you can use eyebrow powder or an eyebrow pencil, but I would recommend setting this with a clear brow mascara.

When you use eyeshadow stick to natural colors – like brown, rose or golden tones. Make sure that your eyes are lifted and appear to be more awake. For that you need to apply a lighter shadow to the eyelid, a darker shadow in the crease and then blend it. If you want to open up the eyes even more you can always add a shimmery highlight to the inner corner of the eye.

Last but not least, apply a waterproof mascara to your lashes. I always stick to the upper lashes that way they don’t adhere to my lower lashes as much, but do what you prefer.

Step Six – Lipstick and Setting Spray

If you choose to use lipstick make sure that it is not a bold color unless that is your statement color you wear on a daily basis. I would recommend using a lipliner before unless the lipstick is a long-lasting one.

Lastly, you should use Setting Spray to set your makeup in place and to revive it a bit with some freshness. Setting spray makes sure that your makeup lasts all day and doesn’t smudge.

All in all, stick to neutral and warm colors to give your face a natural glow and healthy look. If you want to make sure your eyes pop don’t use a bold color on the lips and vice versa. But most important – YOU DO YOU, whatever feels the most like yourself is completely fine.

If you are unsure if what you created is good enough check-in with your friends or family via a video chat. That way you can check if it looks good or if you need to change it up a little.

I hope you guys enjoyed this little entry.

I wish you a wonderful day!

My Spring to Summer Make-Up Look

Hey my loves,

I don’t know about you, but I am about ready for summer. It is already quite warm and sunny where I am from, but I want to actually enjoy the sun, which is not quite possibly with two Master degree’s in the making. So instead, I thought I pay homage to the sun the way I know it – with make-up.

As I am not yet tan enough for a full bronzed look I went with a nice touch of color on the eyes, subtle enough for everyday life, but spicy and summer-y enough to get me through my long to-do lists. I love doing colorful eye-looks like this as it is an easy integration of a touch of color to an otherwise boring look. I did not want to go overboard, so I chose a lipstick and lipgloss combo that would be a nice add to the rest of the make-up.

To get the tone I wanted I blended two colors – I used the two red tones in the NYX Ultimate Shadow Palette, which gave me this gorgeous pink color.

As you can see I focused the colors in the inner corner and blended it out, then I added highlighter on top of it, since the shadow itself was a matte finish. I used the light-gold shadow of the palette as well as the highlight shade of the Too Faced palette. I also added a red-brown color on the top lash line, also from the same NYX shadow palette.

It may be silly to ask, but I do it anyways just out of curiosity. Do you guys have plans this summer? Let me know in the comments.

I wish you all a wonderful day!

Christmas Gift Guide

Hey my loves,

With Christmas just around the corner I thought it would be the perfect time to talk about some gift giving. I love Christmas so much, it’s just something about this season that feels so special and full of love. In today’s blog post I am going to talk about the best Christmas gifts for your friends, family and co-workers.

This year I decided to skip my annual Christmas Dinner with all of my friends and instead donate half the money I would have spent instead. I donated it to an organization of my choice. I also put a little bit of money aside for something that needs a little more saving.

Gifts Under 20 Bucks

I believe that a gift has to come from the heart and does not need to be excessively expensive, but I am also a gift giver who always gives more than I have to. But, there are some great options out there for your loved ones that are under 20 bucks.

100 Movies Scratch Off Poster

This gift is perfect for any movie lover you might now and it’s super affordable, you could even get a nice frame for it and it would still be under 20 bucks.

Game of Phones

In this day and age we all have a phone on us, so why not make a game out of it. This is the perfect gift for one of your friends or your family. You can play it on the day of your gift giving and I know I am always a good sucker for a funny game. My other favorites are: What do you meme?, Cards Against Humanity or Pictionary.

Urban Map Glass

We all know at least one person who loves a good drink. This glass is perfect for those people. Not only can you pick a city they may have been to, but it’s also super cute to look at.

Nars – Gift Set

Christmas is the highlight for any beauty lover. The Nars – Softcore Afterglow Lip Balm and Blush gift set is just one of the many options you can get your makeup and skincare loving friends, family and co-workers.

Himalayan Salt Lamp

This lamp is perfect for anyone. It helps calm you down and is soothing. It also improves your sleep. And it’s really cute to look at.

Books

I love giving books as presents. Whether it being a favorite of mine or a book they mentioned they wanted to read. Or just a simple notebook, where they can write down their thoughts. Here are some great book gift ideas:

Gifts over 20 Bucks

Sometimes you want to splurge a little bit on the people you care about. Here are some great gift ideas for you:

Echo Dot

I bought myself a couple on Black Friday and I just love them. The quality of the speaker is really good and it comes with some great features. Perfect for any tech obsessed person.

Kindle

Sometimes people prefer to read on a Kindle, because it is lighter and easier to transport than a book. It especially great for people who are traveling a lot or a commute to work. It takes little to no space in any purse or backpack.

Essential Oil Diffuser – Humidifier

This one is so cute in its pineapple form. Perfect for anyone who loves to spice up their apartment and loves to use a humidifier.

Fujifilm – Instax Mini 9 Instant Camera

Perfect gift for anyone who loves to capture moments.

Other Gift Ideas

I also love giving things that cost little to no money at all. Whether it being a self-made voucher or baking some cookies. It’s the thought behind a gift not the gift itself that should matter. I also think a great way to gift a person is by donating money in their name to an organization they care about.

What are your gifting this year? Let me know in the comments. I would love to know.

I wish you all a wonderful day.

My Fall Makeup Routine

Hey my loves,

in today’s blog post I am going to talk about my long-lasting fall makeup routine with you and share my secrets on how I make it last all day long. I will also include my six favorite fall lipstick shades for this season.

Step-by-Step

Skincare is key when it comes to making your makeup super long-lasting. So I always make sure that the night before I cleansed my skin super well. if you would like to have an in depth skincare routine check out my post about that.

Primer is also an important step. Each skin type needs to use their own particular primer, but since I have combination skin I like to use something that is super sticky. I use “The Ordinary – High-Adherance Silicone Primer” and I have been for super long now.

Foundation is the make or break in a long-lasting makeup look, if you’re foundation doesn’t hold all day. How should the rest of your products stay on? I always go back to my favorite in the colder seasons, which is the “L’Oréal Paris – True Match Liquid Foundation“. They now have added hyaluronic acid to their foundation which is amazing because it has great skincare values.

Concealer for all the little spots and dark circles. I always make sure to use as less concealer as I can since I tend to crease with it on a lot quicker especially under my eyes. But here’s my tip for you: Only apply it on the lower half of your under eye circles and don’t go up all the way to your eye. That way you stay a way from the fine lines right under the eye. It works wonders for me. For my concealer I use the “Maybelline – Face Studio Concealer“.

Setting Powder is next to foundation the KEY to making your makeup long-lasting. I find that if you don’t use the right powder for your skin type and level on longevity, your makeup tends to rub off a lot quicker. I LOVE my “Laura Mercier – Translucent Loose Setting Powder” because it leaves my skin feeling smooth and silky and it will make my makeup not move an inch, while also making it look like I am not wearing any powder at all.

Bronzer and Contour are my next steps in my routine. To be fair, I don’t use a bronzer on the daily basis, but if I do I like to use the “Physician Formula – Ultra-Nourishing Argan Oil Bronzer“. For my contour powder I am staying true to my one true love which is the “Benefit – Hoola Bronzer“. I find that it works amazing as a contour on my skin color.

Blush is where it gets a little tricky for me. I get a little oily in those areas so powder blushes tend to just disappear after a while. But I now have the perfect combination for long-lasting blush. For my base, before I apply my powder I use the “NIP+FAB – Liquid Blush in Mauve Moment” and after applying a light dust of my face powder I set my liquid blush with the “Maybelline – Face Studio Blush”.

Highlighter I don’t use on an everyday basis, but if I were to use a highlighter I would probably use my fave the “Becca – Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Opal“.

Brows are super simple for me, because I have been blessed with quite good brows. So I only use my trusty “L’Oréal Paris – Brow Artist Plumper” and run it lightly through my brows.

Setting Spray is my next step because I like to use it before I apply mascara and lipstick. I’ve been recently loving the “NYX – Bare with me Prime Set Refresh Spray” because it literally feels super light, makes my makeup look like skin and it helps with the longevity of my makeup so much.

Mascara is and always be waterproof for me. My eyes get super teary so anything other than waterproof just doesn’t stay on. I recently been trying out the “L’Oréal Paris – Unlimited Waterproof Mascara” and have to say that I really like it. It just takes some time to get used to.

Lipstick never changes for me on an everyday basis, since I just loving the “Maybelline – SuperStay 24hr Lip Color in Rose Dust” it just stays on all day and is my perfect pink nude lipstick for me.

For a quick everyday makeup

I love to switch up my foundation on days where my makeup doesn’t have to stay on for 12 hours or longer. For that I have been recently using the “IT Cosmetics – CC Cream“. And I love it.

Favorite Fall Lipsticks

I love me some dark colors for the fall and winter season. Here are my top six that I love to wear.

What are some of your favorite fall lipsticks to wear? Let me know, I’m always down to try something new.

I wish you all a wonderful day!

My Secret to Glowy & Longlasting Winter Makeup

Hey my loves,

in today’s blog post I am going to talk about how I achieve a glowy and longlasting makeup look that will stay on for up to 14 hours without smudging.

Winter is the time of the year when your skin dries out and you need to give it that little extra attention and love in order to make your makeup look good. So I usually start my day off with a good skincare routine that gives my skin enough moisture. For that I use the L’Oreál Hydra – Genius Aloe Water for Sensitive Skin as well as The Ordinary – Organic Cold-Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil.

A Step by Step Guide

  1. I like to apply a sticky primer that will allow the foundation to better adhere to the skin than anything else. For that I use The Ordinary – High Adherence Silicone Primer. Let me tell you, this stuff is cheap and AMAZING! I switched to it around two months ago and it changed the game on a whole other level. I just really love The Ordinary products, so if you haven’t checked their stuff out already definitely do so.
  2. Next I use a lightweight foundation that has almost the same effect as a CC Cream. Truth be told, I only like wearing lightweight foundations these days, because I feel like heavier foundations just clock up my pores and also do not last as long. My current obsession is The Ordinary – Serum Foundation that stuff is pure gold and under eight bucks.
  3. If I need extra coverage for pimples or for under my eyes I like to use the L’Oréal Paris – Infaillible Concealer. It’s high coverage but does not clog up the pores to much, but to be fair, I do not need my makeup to be perfect for everyday College life which basically means I usually step this step.
  4. Next I like to set my entire face with loose setting powder. As of my birthday I am using the Laura Mercier – Translucent Setting Powder and I absolutely love it! It’s super fine and feels lightweight on the skin.
  5. Last but not least I like to set my entire face of makeup with a glowy setting spray. The one that I am using is the NYX – Glowy Finish Setting Spray. It is the final touch to my makeup and it absolutely makes a difference when I use it.

Above you can see a full face with all the products I’ve mentioned as well as obviously some eye makeup, blusher, bronzer and highlighter. I just love how my skin looks with all the products. It’s perfect for Winter!

What are some of your favorite makeup products that you love to use during Winter? Tell me in the comments, I would love to know.

I wish you all a wonderful day!

My Fall Makeup Favorites as a Busy College Student

Hey my loves,

fall is my favorite season of the year, I just love everything that comes with it – cozy sweaters, warm tea, changing leaves, cold and crispy days filled with sunshine and of course Halloween. But for most of the time, I’m at college or work so in order to fully live out my fall love I have to try to incorporate it into my makeup routine. And you know what? Fall is perfect for makeup, first of all, it’s not too hot that you sweat it off and also you get away with wearing a dark lip at daytime, which is already a perk in itself.

fall makeup header.jpeg

So today, I will share some of my staples for fall and what I pretty much use on an everyday basis. My makeup usually has to stay on for a long time, everything from 8 to 12 hours sometimes even more, so long-lasting makeup that doesn’t wear off to easily is very important to me. Especially because I’m not big of a touch-your-makeup-kinda-gal, it just does not work for me and my skin type.

Prep & Prime

For my base I like to start with a hydrating moisturizer and on days where my skin feels extra dry I even add one to two drops of face oil. I use the L’Oréal – Hydra Genius Moisturizer for sensitive skin, and, as for my oil, I use The Ordinary – 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil. The primer I use is also from The Ordinary, it’s the High-Adherence Silicone Primer – I love that primer so much, it really makes a HUGE difference in the longevity of my makeup.

Base

I usually like to wear a little foundation and concealer on an everyday basis, because my skin gets quite irritated during the day, so to even out my skin tone I use the L’Oréal Paris – Infaillible Foundation Stick and the L’Oréal Paris – Infaillable 24h Concealer Pomade. I usually blend it in with a damp beauty blender by Real Techniques. I also always spritz my face with one to two pumps of NYX – Dewy Finish Setting Spray. I used to only use it at the end, but using it with the “liquids” in the beginning makes the makeup even more long-lasting. To set my foundation and concealer in place I use the Maybelline – Masterfix Baking + Brightening Powder in Banana all over my face. If you don’t have a yellow undertone in your complexion the translucent powder might be a better choice for you.

Shape, Color & Highlight

As for my bronzer and blush I like to stick to non shimmery based products, because I do really think that matte products last a lot longer. I use the Benefit – Hoola Bronzer and the Maybelline – Dream Matte Blush in Flirty Pink. Most days I skip highlighter, especially on my really long College and work days, simply because I do tend to get a little bit oily and shiny throughout the day, and to avoid being a complete shiny mess I tend to skip highlighter. But for my shorter days I always use the MAC – Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle.

Brows & Eyes

My eyeshadow routine changes everyday. It usually depends on how much time I have in the morning, where I’ll be at and how long I’ll be out. But for basic days I like to use one single eyeshadow all over my eye blended out and also a little bit of it under the eye. For that I am currently using the L’Oréal Paris – Havana Camila Cabello Eyeshadow in Control. But, on days where I feel a little more daring, I like to pop on some color and for that I am currently using the NYX – Ultimate Shadow Palette in Brights. As for my mascara I always use a waterproof one, I love the L’Oréal Paris – Paradise Extactic Mascara. For my brows I usually stick to the L’Oréal Paris – Brow Artist Xpert in Cool Blonde and just fill them in with a light hand.

To set my phase I use the NYX – Dewy Finish Setting Spray, again.

Lips

Now, my lip color changes everyday. But here are my top 3 choices at the moment:

Quick and Effortless Summer Makeup

Hey my loves,

today I am sharing with you my go-to make up for those super hot summer days. All you need is about five to seven products.

summer makeup easy_2.jpg

When it is super hot outside I like to stick to a super simple and easy makeup. I make sure to even out my skin tone. I use a concealer for that.

But before concealer I use primer.

I’ve been using the Maybelline – Superstay Primer. It makes my makeup last all day and even though I will only be using concealer I like to have a base for it.

I basically spot conceal and get rid of my dark circles. Currently I have been using the Maybelline – Instant Age Rewind Concealer. I use my finger to apply the concealer onto the spots and my under-eye.

To set my under-eye concealer I use a brightening powder.

Currently I have been trying out the Maybelline – Baking + Brightening Loose Powder. I only use it under my eyes and on my t-zone. On most days I don’t have to set the rest of the concealer, I only sweat in my t-zone and have creasing under my eyes.

I either apply blush or bronzer.

On hot days I don’t like to have too many powders on my face and because I haven’t found great drugstore liquid blushes or bronzer I usually stick to one of the powder versions. I either use my Too Faced – Sweethearts Blush in Something About Berry or a mix of the three bronzer shades in my Maybelline – Bronzer Palette.

Highlight is a must.

In summer I can’t live without highlighter. I’m currently using the MAC – Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle. I apply on the tops of my cheek bones, the tip of my nose, the inner corner of my eye, my brow bone and on my cupids bow.

Waterproof Mascara is a life saver.

I always use waterproof mascara, but I especially wear it in summer. Sweat will tear off any other mascara and I will look like a panda. I’m using the Maybelline – Perfect Mascara.

Set and set again.

Last but not least, setting my makeup is one of the biggest MUST’s. I have to set my makeup or I will end up with nothing on my face in under an hour. I use the Maybelline – Super Stay Setting Spray. It works wonders for me.

Light dab of color for the lips.

Now lastly, I apply lipstick. I usually just dab whatever color I want for the day on my lips and that’s it. Currently I have been using the Gerard Cosmetics – Lipstick in Berry Smoothie or NYX – Soft Matte Lip Cream in San Paulo.

Spring to Summer Makeup Look

Hey my loves,

in today’s entry I am going to talk about the makeup look I’ve been wearing for the transition to summer. Where I’m leaving it’s currently a heat wave so we’ve been having temperatures up in the 25 C.

Processed with VSCO with dog2 preset

As per usual I like to keep it minimal for the everyday basis, especially because I’m usually out the entire day at Uni. What’s also important is a very long-lasting makeup and a sweat proof one, because – duh – it’s summer, so it’s usually hot. Haha xD

Here’s the makeup I used to create my look:

7fcae55a-5de9-408a-a3f4-6b108f2e67d8-e1527943705938.jpg

As you can see I’m currently loving a lot of Maybelline products and I think that’s amazing. I personally think they have really upped their game with their new products and I think that for their price they are amazing, long-lasting products.

For my eyes, I used a combination of the three bronzer shades in the Master Bronze Palette in the crease and under-eye. And a little bit of the gold from the palette on my lid.

My lip color varies on my mood and when I took that picture I felt bold so I went with a bright fuchsia color. I love the mattes from NYX, though I wish they were a little bit longer lasting.

What are your go-to makeup products for summer? Tell me in the comments, I would love to know.

I wish you all a wonderful day!

XoXo,
Jasmin.
