a little update

Hey my loves,

Long time no chat. It has been almost three months since I have uploaded a blog entry, so I thought I would give you a quick run down on what happened. The Corona-Semester hit me hard, a lot of my classes were canceled and if they were online it was truly not the best situation at all. At the end I was only able to do three courses, which is really bad when you think that I had booked around eleven courses. I honestly was shocked at how some of my professors dealt with the entire situation and I am hoping that the upcoming semester will be better even if it will be an online semester as well.

Besides that a lot of other very crazy things happened and that have tested me over the last weeks a lot. It just shows you how much you should value and cherish moments with friends and family and how strong one really ist. Something just happened a little over a week ago, which was probably the scariest of them all – a Corona scare. But all is good now – but still wear your mask and keep social distancing to people you do not know.

But now, I am officially on vacation time, well besides the two papers that have to be written and the move I have to prepare. Oh yeah, right – I AM MOVING! I am so excited for my new apartment, I am not really moving cities or anything but I am getting a bigger space, which I am super excited about. I will probably move in around four to six weeks – hopefully, there are some delays (the apartment is being fully renovated). I am planning on a series involving my move, so stay tuned for that.

How has quarantine and the whole situation affected you? Tell me in the comments. This blog is a safe place. Also, let me know of any blog post ideas you would want me to share. I am going to slowly get back into it and hopefully be back on my feet with this blog by the time I am in my new place.

Stay safe. Stay healthy. Wear a mask.

My 2019 Highlight Reel

Hey my loves,

Oh my god, 2019 is ending today. I cannot believe how quickly this year has passed. I noticed that the older I get the faster time passes. I wonder why that is…

But another new beginning means saying goodbye to a great 365 days of laughter, love, crying, good and bad days and so much more. And I for one am a sucker for a highlight reel. What about you?

So much happened this year, sometimes you don’t even realize how much can happen in twelve months until you look back. 2019 has been a year with a lot of highs and a lot of lows. But I feel like what would you learn from life without the lows, right? It’s how you deal with them. Now, let’s take a look at some of my 2019 highlights.

January to March

In the beginning of the year I took some much needed time away from social media, which I used to focus that time on myself and my needs. I went to a masters fair to see if I find a masters program which would suit me. I did, but that turned to something I will probably touch on some time in the new year.

I also managed to take an exam I have been dreading to do again. I was so anxious to fail it again, because a lot was resting on that one exam and I don’t do good in exams. Honestly, I can write one paper after the other or multiple ones at the same time, but one exam gives me so much anxiety. But, I PASSED.

I ticked something of my bucket list in March of 2019, which was to go to my homelands capital. I always wanted to go, because I feel like it’s something everyone should experience and I really wanted to see some of the historical sights. If you want to know more about my trip to Berlin, check out my blog post here.

April to June

The three months of April to June was focusing a lot of time and energy of writing my bachelor thesis. I wrote it while I still had to attend a lot of courses and working my part time job, so it was a struggle to say the least, but one that was so worth it. I also finished it a week or so earlier than I had to which gave me time to really proof read it and put some finishing touches on.

In June I also became an aunt for the second time to a beautiful boy, who is just the absolute cutest little human being you have ever seen.

July to September

Time to hand in my thesis. I will never forget how jittery, excited and full of fear I was while I handing in my thesis. One life changing moment right there. The wait for my grade was absolute hell, but in the end I was so happy to have passed and get my degree. Best years of my life, so far.

I needed a little vacation after my hell of a semester so I went to stay with my family in southern Germany. I had the best few days and felt really rejoiced when I got back. I also decided to re-do my entire apartment, because I felt like it was time for a change.

If you want to see my new apartment check out theses blog post:

My Living Room Makeover

October to December

I had a super fun photoshoot day with my best friend in October where we not only took some of my favorite pictures but also got to explore a side of Düsseldorf, which we have never been to. It was so much fun, sometimes just exploring makes me the happiest. To see some of the pictures, go check out my Instagram.

For my birthday this year I didn’t want to host a party, so instead I went to a theater piece. We saw a postmodern version of Hamlet which was phenomenal. It was so fun, exciting and full of life. We immediately decided that we had to see 1984 with the same musical director and actor as well.

I also went onto a really funny trip with my grandma and her mates. It was such a weird and funky day, because I was literally the youngest person on that trip, but honestly, I had a blast. And I love spending quality time with my granny.

2019 has been absolutely life changing. I am officially done with my Bachelor degree, I almost finished my apartment to the extend I want and I had lots of fun days with friends and family. I am grateful for all of my blessings and I cannot wait what the new decade will bring.

2020 is gonna be great.

I wish you all a wonderful day and a save and fun New Year’s Eve.

How to make the most of a cold day

Hey my loves,

Winter means a lot of things – cozy sweaters, time with your loved ones, festive music and so much more. But it’s also the season of cold, rainy and snowy days and sometimes you don’t want to get out on those days, because you rather stay inside.

But what could you do to brighten up those days? Well, let me tell you what I do.

Get into the comfiest clothes. Make some hot tea or cocoa.

Speed Cleaning

The first thing I like to do on those rainy days is to speed clean my apartment. I know, sounds not so fun, but honestly starting your day with a task like this will make you feel like you accomplished something that day.

Hearty Breakfast or Brunch

After I like to make myself some hot coffee or tea, whatever I fancy that day and most likely will even spend a little more time on my breakfast. I’ve been loving oatmeal with a banana and cinnamon lately, so I will likely make that.

Spending quality time with friends

If I don’t have anything to do for the blog or Uni I like to call up friends and ask if they want to hang out, because let’s be honest watching a movie or cooking food with friends is just so much more fun. I love playing board games with my friends and am currently building an awesome collection of games.

Festive movies or TV shows

I put on a Christmas movie or a show I am currently watching. Recently I’ve been loving Somewhere Between and V Wars, really into both for some reason. Or Virgin River. But, if I am being honest I am just waiting for the next season of You. I freaking love that show. What are some of your favorite TV shows at the moment? Let me know. I’m always intrigued to try something new.

Self Care

If I have put something on I have already seen I most likely paint my nails or do some light brain storming or spend my time on Instagram. At some point or the other I get bored so I will switch up what I am doing, I love reading so I sometimes will read a couple of pages of the book I am reading. But, I also love doing an extended skin care routine. Check out my latest entries: My Skincare Routine and Best Beauty Buys in Winter

Baking and Cooking Comfort Food

I love baking, especially around Christmas time.

I’ve recently started a new thing on my Instagram called Monday Cravings where I share my favorite recipes. Check out my first two IGTVs for some inspiration for some great cookie recipes. @thedawnofinspiration

After baking and cooking I always end up on my couch watching a movie I haven’t yet seen. Sometimes, when I am not in the mood to watch anything, I just love to watch YouTube videos or learn to play the guitar.

What are some of your tips to make the most of a cold day? Let me know in the comments.

I wish you all a wonderful day.

What I have been up to…

Hey my loves,

the last six months have been the busiest months for me ever. Not only did I finish up my last semester, but I also wrote my bachelor thesis. And let me tell you it was a LOT of work. Like a LOT.

But I managed to do it all.

I thought I would give you a quick run up of what I have been up to the past five to six months, so you’ll understand why I did not have the time to blog.

APRIL

While in April some of my blog posts still went up it was simply because I had written a lot in my spare time in March, so I had a couple of posts lined up in April. But as the month progressed I got busier and busier. In the first week of April my last semester started and with all the work. Easter Weekend I spent with my family and prepping my bachelor thesis. I also had a little photoshoot with one of my longest friend.

MAY & JUNE

In May and June two out of the four weekends I spent at University since I was doing a seminar that was on Friday and Saturday. That also meant I only had Sundays to prepare for my Uni work load, which is basically why I did not manage to write at all. Uni came first. Additionally I fell ill in the first week of June so I could’t do anything for a whole week, which sucked majorly. And then it all got down to the last few weeks of my writing time for my thesis so that had PRIORITY. I also got my hair professionally colored and cut (loved the cut, but she literally fried my hair of so badly).

JULY & AUGUST

After I handed in my thesis on July 10th I went on a one week vacation to my family in southern Germany where I recharged and fueled up some good energy. Also, after looking some a apartments a week prior I ultimately decided that instead of moving I would renovate my current space (will do a blog post about it). Well, since then I’ve been redecorating, wallpapering and doing a whole lot of stuff with friends. Which is why y’all getting these entry in September.

What have you been up to the past months? Tell me in the comments. I would love to know.

I wish you all a wonderful day!

My Last Semester as a Bachelor Student

Hey my loves,

Over a week ago I started my last week as a bachelor student. It’s finally the time to finish this and write my thesis. I can’t believe that I finished all of my exams and only have some courses left. It’s so weird thinking about the last six years especially about how far I’ve come. Honestly, never thought this time would actually come, but here it is.

I have a tough three and a half months ahead of me, but even though I might moan a lot about it, I’m ready for it.

A dream written down with a date becomes a goal.

A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan.

A plan backed by action becomes reality.

Greg Reid

I have a to do list that is as long as my arm and I have to make so many decisions in the next few week, which kind of scares me a lot. But change is good sometimes, change sometime needs to happen. And I feel like this is one of those times where I need to move on.

My bachelor thesis is official registered and I have a due date. It is kind of super exciting to finally get into that phase of the work, but it also means I do have to work twice as hard as the last few months.

Are there any blog post regarding writing a bachelor thesis or papers you would like me to write? Let me know in the comments.

I wish you all a wonderful day!

Hi there & welcome back!

Hey my loves,

Long time no see. How are you all doing?

I’ve been a little MIA since the beginning of this year and there have been many reasons why. First, I took some time away from social media the entire January and it was such a good experience. Then I just got way too busy with work and College stuff that I just did not have any time to create content for you guys. I would love to say that I am back with two entries a week but I think I cannot promise that, since I will be starting my last semester of my bachelor degree in April and simultaneously will start to work on my bachelor thesis. I am going to try to put up one entry per week, I think that will be do-able, but if not, please bear with me.

Now some things have changed since the last time we spoke to each other: I changed my hair. I was just not having as much fun with my long hair as I used to have, it just got to a length, where it did not look good unless I styled it, and that, for most days, took way to long. So one evening I cut it off, after going a little lighter in color. What do you think?

I am currently writing my last paper for my bachelor’s degree and am preparing to register my bachelor thesis, so a lot of reading has been happening for me. I cannot believe that I am actually almost finished, it feels so surreal. Would you like me to write a blog post about how I am feeling and how I am coping with things? Maybe even a little post about my future plans? What you think? Let me know.

What is there to be expected the next few weeks? Well, I have been on a short weekend away to Berlin with my best friend, so I will write a couple of entries about how we planned it, how we saw everything we wanted in one day and a little photo entry, maybe. I am also planning for a few college related contents, but if you have any suggestions or wishes, just let me know and I see what I can do.

Oh, and I have a new make-up routine, which I will share with you soon. And of course, I will write about my experience with a month off of social media. It will probably be my next entry.

I hope you all had a lovely start into 2019 and I cannot wait to get back to writing for you guys.

I wish you all a wonderful day!

2018 Review and Why I’m Taking A Break From Social Media

Hey my loves,

Last day of 2018: Can you believe it? And what a year it has been.

2018 changed a lot for me, I changed a lot. I grew immensely with each challenge I have tackled this year and I have managed to find a new way of living a much happier lifestyle. Each struggle made me stronger and each new chapter enriched my life so much.

I am also thankful for all the people in my life. My best friends, who I consider family, are always there for me and lift me up. They are right beside me through the good and the bed. And my family, my heart, who endlessly support me in everything that I do. I have so many wonderful people in my life and I couldn’t be more grateful for that.

A lot has happened this year, I wrote a lot of papers for College this year – and I mean A LOT. But I also found out that I am actually pretty good at writing. I also found a job which has me filled with so much joy and excitement, because I am constantly learning new things and get to experience a lot of things I wouldn’t have before. I also met some of the nicest colleagues and boss you could ever ask for. And I am super excited for all the things that will come up next. I also spend a lot of time on myself, eating healthier, exercising, making better choices. All of which lead to a much, much happier me.

Now I am not the biggest believer in New Year’s resolutions, so instead I always set myself goals that I want for the next few years that I can achieve and which I truly want to do. I won’t share my 2019 goals with you, those are my personal ones. But I am sharing with you something I will do for myself starting with January 1st. Social Media is a big part of my life, so is this blog and for that matter my phone. But I don’t want my life on these platforms. I want a life in real life. So in order to see if I have forgot how to actually life I will take some time away from Social Media and my phone.

I decided to mute all my notifications, put all my apps except the ones I actually need for my lifestyle (like phone, calendar, mail and to a certain degree messages) into a folder and don’t touch them. First I was going to set myself a time frame, but I think I just have to see how long I can live with the FOMO. It’s going to be hard not to see what everybody is up to or answer all messages right that second. But I believe for myself, especially for my mental health, this will be good. This also means taking a break from my blog, I will probably still write some pieces, or write down ideas, but I won’t publish anything. At least for the entire January. This also gives me much more extra time in January since I have a million to-do’s for College and I want to focus my attention on these things. I obviously will write about my experience, but I don’t know when this will be. I don’t want to put any pressure on me, I just want to see, how I change and how my lifestyle is changing.

Would you do it with me? Like and share this entry and participate in your own way. And get back to me with your experience when you’re ready.

Guys, thank you for an amazing year for my blog and I wish you all a happy New Year, may all your dreams and wishes will come true!

I wish you all a wonderful night!

How I Deal with Stress – An Honest Answer

Hey my loves,

a couple of weeks ago I talked about how I managed to write three papers simultaneously, as well about my personal development story, so I thought it was about time that I talk about how I deal with stress. This also comes at a time where a lot of things are happening and I am under a lot of stress.

honesty.png

As I am writing this I am laying in my bed dealing with the last bits of my cold that knocked me out an entire week and has put me back with work for college a lot more than I would like. The past three, almost four, weeks haven been stressful on so many levels. About three and a half weeks ago I had a bad fall, which ended with me in a cast on my foot and pain in my arm. My doctor prescribed me rest and I took it, for three days instead of the two weeks he told me to. But I am almost healed now and do not have much pain anymore, so all is good. But that kinda just started a mountain of new stressful things. As college has started again in the beginning of October I found it hard to find a balance between eating right, taking time for myself, working out, as well as maintaining the oversight about the work I have to do for College. So instead of using my new learned tools I tumbled down a path of unhealthy choices and no-time spend for myself which ultimately led to me being irritable, in a bad mood and not taking care of myself enough. The stress level only got higher when I was not able to workout because of my fall.

Well, long story short, PMS kicked also in, harder than it had been the last six months and I was, and for most of the week, I still am a mess full of anxiety attacks and mood swings, but weirdly enough this week of being sick with the cold is turning everything around again. Last week I turned 27 and I had two of my best friends with me and we had the most fun I had in a while. We had a dance session for almost an hour and it just felt so good to feel my body and to exercise, quite frankly. But the day after, I got sick and hit with it hard. But instead of letting myself get dragged down by it even more I decided enough is enough, the moments I feel better I do something for myself. In the past two days, where I have been feeling a lot better, I even had mini dance session of ten minutes for myself. And, let me tell you, how good that felt, even though I was exhausted after it and fell straight asleep.

Now, this post is supposed to be about how I deal with stress, but the truth is: I do not know. Because every time I think I have an answer to it, something new comes up and throws me off-balance. But what I do know is that if you keep a positive attitude a lot of the things might not be as bad as they seem. And sometimes it is okay, not to be okay.

But one thing I want to make sure is that my PMS is not getting as bad next time as it was this time, and in order to do so I have to make sure to put my health, mentally and physically, first again. As soon as I am no longer sick, I will get back into a routine workout situation and as of this week I am trying to figure out a way to incorporate healthy lifestyle and food choices into my busy life again. Basically, I started WW again, just to keep myself motivated to eat healthy and to eat at all. Most of my days I simply forget or am too tired to cook or eat at all, and that’s not a lifestyle I want to live.

So I guess my tip for you would be to take it one step, one day at a time and just realize that you do not have to be on your A-game all the time that it is okay to put yourself, your health and your mental health first.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!

How I Cleared My Skin

Hey my loves,

Since I can remember I am struggling with skin issues. But this year my skin has become much more radiant, healthier and I also have a lot less acne or active breakouts. Even my acne scars are starting to heal a little bitIf you want to know how I cleared my skin, keep on reading, because I am about to tell you.

skincare use.jpeg

Firstly, I introduced a healthier diet into my life. I made sure to eat less processed food and also cook more with veggies and don’t eat as much of red meat and sugar. This helped with my skin enormously in the way that it cleared my skin off most of the active breakouts, since they usually appeared because of an unhealthy diet.

Then I make sure to take my makeup off EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, even if I don’t want to and am lazy, I do it. If you leave your makeup on overnight your pores will get clogged and with that breakouts are much more likely to happen especially if you have an acne prone skin, like me.

My skincare routine at night consist of the following steps:

  1. Taking my makeup off with L’Oréal Paris – Fine Flowers Cleansing Cream.
  2. Then take a makeup wipe to wipe the product off and get rid of any excess makeup. I prefer a makeup wipe, because I would have to use a new cloth every single evening, because I found out that even with cleaning the cloth with hot water and soap it still had some product left and that leads to me having breakouts.
  3. I then go ahead and clean my skin with the L’Oréal Paris – Fine Flowers Gel Cream Wash.
  4. Then I just clean my skin with hot and cold water, always in an upward motion.
  5. To moisturize I use two products:The Ordinary –100% Organic Cold-Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil: about 5 drops.

Another thing I introduced into my everyday life was days without makeup. I used to wear makeup even when I was just running errands, I now don’t do that anymore. Simply to give my skin a little break and to breathe. I also make sure to get at least seven hours of sleep at night, so that my body and skin has enough time to rejoice itself. Last but not least, I doubled my water intake and take b12-vitamins.

What are some of your tips and tricks of clearing your skin? What has worked for you? I would love to know. I hope that this entry gave you a little insight into my routine and maybe some of my tricks will help you too.

I wish you all a wonderful day!

How I Dealt With Stress While Writing 3 Papers Simultaneously

Hey my loves,

Last week I talked about my personal development story so I thought it would only be fitting to talk about how I deal with stress in a little bit more detail and especially focus on how I managed to write three papers simultaneously and prepare an oral exam.

Now the ideal procedure is to write one paper after the other and have about two months to finish each of them. Well, I didn’t have that pleasure, I had to write them simultaneously and two of them actually had their due date in the same week. But I managed to do them, and I actually did pretty good.

And here’s how I did it.

how i deal with stress.jpeg

I made an individual plan to follow for each of the papers, as well as one for the oral exam. The only thing I didn’t to is set myself due dates for certain aspects, because I, for myself, know that it does not work for me. And, because usually you have at least two or three problems with the paper – may it be just phrasing problem or a blockade.

Here’s what I did before I enrolled my papers:

  • I discussed with my lecturers possible topics and then I researched it.
  • I compiled a list of literature that I wanted to check out and then I actually went into the library and copied anything that was remotely connected to my thesis.
  • After reading all of the secondary literature I wrote out the citations on my computer and then organized them after the sub-topics. That way it was easier for me to keep an overview of the citations.

I did these steps for all four exams. And then I enrolled my papers, the enroll-time for the oral exam is only four weeks before the date.

Here’s what I did after enrolling:

  • I made sure to only work on one paper on a day. This meant that I wouldn’t have as much time as I should have, but allowed me to have a better overview of my work.
  • I also made sure to spend some quality offline. Meaning I spent time with friends or family that gave me enough space to never feel burned out. I feel like the time I spent with them or went into the gym gave me the needed energy.
  • I am a person who works and does not like to stop until a certain thing is achieved. So on the day I was working on a paper I set myself mini goals, approximately so far apart that I could take a break for lunch and be finished around dinner time. That way I was able to finish two to four sub-items each day, sometimes more, sometimes less.
  • I also made sure to write with the correct formalities, so that I would not have to alter them after I was done. Furthermore, I made sure to write down every secondary literature into my bibliography as soon as I used one. Also in the correct and asked for formality.

I also had a friend proofread for me, which was super helpful, because most of the time after writing so much, you don’t see your own mistakes anymore.

Here’s how I dealt with the stress:

  • As I said I made sure to spend quality time offline with friends and family.
  • In also liked working out on the days I worked on my papers or go for a walk just so I get a little bit of exercise that day.
  • Furthermore I made sure to eat good and healthy meals, so my brain was fueled with energy and had the tools to work in overtime.
  • I also made sure to never work longer than 9 pm. So that I had enough time to switch off my brain and have some me-time before bed.

I hope that this gave you a good insight on how I deal with stress especially in regards to College time management and stressful finals time.

I wish you all a wonderful day!

XoXo, Jasmin.
