27 Things I learned in my Twenties

Hey my loves,

on Friday the 9th of November I turned 27 years old. So I thought why not share some things I learned in my 20s so far. I thought this would be quite fun to share with you guys, since I’m sure we all have different learning experience during our 20s.

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Day

in today’s entry I am going to tell you about how you can get the most of your day and accomplish all your to-do’s even if there are so much to-do that you think you will not be able to do them all in one day.

I always get “how did you do all that?” and the answer is always the same… I did it with structure and planning. Fact is, if you are a girl boss, if you have a lot to do and do not know where to begin or even how to begin, you gotta find a way for yourself to find time and that is only possible if you plan it out, carefully and strategically.

I always start with a general to-do list to see what has to be done in the month, that includes everything I have to do with work, home and other things that concern my work and personal life. With work it’s usually looking at the different events and deciding which one’s I attend and which one’s I won’t attend and then I already know the days where I’ll have to do more. With personal to-do’s this list is pretty much on going and I do not push myself to finish them unless they have a deadline too.

But I am not only working and living my life, I also am a college student and a blogger, so that has to be planned out as well. For college I pretty much do weekly to-do list, where I include each individual course and the thing that have to be done by next week. Currently I am also preparing for an exam as well as my bachelor thesis, so I put down the weekly to-do’s for that as well. Another thing I do is to start with college work before I do anything else. The work I have to do for college is usually the most time-consuming, so I like to get that out-of-the-way as fast as possible. Also if I finish early it gives me either time to do something with my friends or to preparatory work for college, which is always great especially for those weeks where the to-do’s a long.

When it comes to my blog, I usually brain storm mid-month for the next so that I have at least 4 to 6 solid ideas I can write about. Then I usually write them all on one or two days. That is not only time-saving, but it also allows me to not worry about that. My goal at the moment is one blog entry per week, ultimately I would like to produce more content, but with everything else I have to do that is just not possible as of right now. It took me some time to realize that I cannot do it all well unless I limit things. You have to find the right balance. You do not want to overwork yourself, but you also want to show some effort in the work you do! It’s tricky, but manageable.

All in all I like to keep several to-do list, because I like to tick off things as well as be so organized. Besides handwritten to-do-list in my bullet journal for each month, I also write out on a sticky note the to-do’s for college and attach them to the week they have to be done in. As for extra work such as reading diaries or essays, I like to use my phone to set a reminder when I have to finish those. I also use my phone calendar to write down the names of the courses or other to-do’s which have to be done. That way, when I don’t have my bullet journal on hand, I know what I have to do even on the go.

That’s what I do to plan out my day. As for how I manage to get it all done is actually very simple. Getting up early and getting enough sleep is the key. Under the week I like to go to bed no later than 10 pm and that is simply because I like to get 6 to 8 hours of sleep per night and I usually have to get up very early. On the weekends, I got to bed whenever I’m tired and let my body wake me up naturally, which after a lot of hard work, is usually about 6 to 8 hours, however much sleep my body needs. That way you have a lot more hours of the day and I can, most of the time, manage to finish quite early to watch one or two episodes of my favorite tv shows. When it comes to days that I want to spend with friends I like to at least try to get an hour or two of college work or household work in, before I meet them. I just find that I do not feel as lazy if I do that.

How I Dealt With Stress While Writing 3 Papers Simultaneously

Last week I talked about my personal development story so I thought it would only be fitting to talk about how I deal with stress in a little bit more detail and especially focus on how I managed to write three papers simultaneously and prepare an oral exam.

Now the ideal procedure is to write one paper after the other and have about two months to finish each of them. Well, I didn’t have that pleasure, I had to write them simultaneously and two of them actually had their due date in the same week. But I managed to do them, and I actually did pretty good.

And here’s how I did it.

I made an individual plan to follow for each of the papers, as well as one for the oral exam. The only thing I didn’t to is set myself due dates for certain aspects, because I, for myself, know that it does not work for me. And, because usually you have at least two or three problems with the paper – may it be just phrasing problem or a blockade.

Here’s what I did before I enrolled my papers:

  • I discussed with my lecturers possible topics and then I researched it.
  • I compiled a list of literature that I wanted to check out and then I actually went into the library and copied anything that was remotely connected to my thesis.
  • After reading all of the secondary literature I wrote out the citations on my computer and then organized them after the sub-topics. That way it was easier for me to keep an overview of the citations.

I did these steps for all four exams. And then I enrolled my papers, the enroll-time for the oral exam is only four weeks before the date.

Here’s what I did after enrolling:

  • I made sure to only work on one paper on a day. This meant that I wouldn’t have as much time as I should have, but allowed me to have a better overview of my work.
  • I also made sure to spend some quality offline. Meaning I spent time with friends or family that gave me enough space to never feel burned out. I feel like the time I spent with them or went into the gym gave me the needed energy.
  • I am a person who works and does not like to stop until a certain thing is achieved. So on the day I was working on a paper I set myself mini goals, approximately so far apart that I could take a break for lunch and be finished around dinner time. That way I was able to finish two to four sub-items each day, sometimes more, sometimes less.
  • I also made sure to write with the correct formalities, so that I would not have to alter them after I was done. Furthermore, I made sure to write down every secondary literature into my bibliography as soon as I used one. Also in the correct and asked for formality.

I also had a friend proofread for me, which was super helpful, because most of the time after writing so much, you don’t see your own mistakes anymore.

Here’s how I dealt with the stress:

  • As I said I made sure to spend quality time offline with friends and family.
  • In also liked working out on the days I worked on my papers or go for a walk just so I get a little bit of exercise that day.
  • Furthermore I made sure to eat good and healthy meals, so my brain was fueled with energy and had the tools to work in overtime.
  • I also made sure to never work longer than 9 pm. So that I had enough time to switch off my brain and have some me-time before bed.

My Fall Makeup Favorites as a Busy College Student

fall is my favorite season of the year, I just love everything that comes with it – cozy sweaters, warm tea, changing leaves, cold and crispy days filled with sunshine and of course Halloween. But for most of the time, I’m at college or work so in order to fully live out my fall love I have to try to incorporate it into my makeup routine. And you know what? Fall is perfect for makeup, first of all, it’s not too hot that you sweat it off and also you get away with wearing a dark lip at daytime, which is already a perk in itself.

So today, I will share some of my staples for fall and what I pretty much use on an everyday basis. My makeup usually has to stay on for a long time, everything from 8 to 12 hours sometimes even more, so long-lasting makeup that doesn’t wear off to easily is very important to me. Especially because I’m not big of a touch-your-makeup-kinda-gal, it just does not work for me and my skin type.

Prep & Prime

For my base I like to start with a hydrating moisturizer and on days where my skin feels extra dry I even add one to two drops of face oil. I use the L’Oréal – Hydra Genius Moisturizer for sensitive skin, and, as for my oil, I use The Ordinary – 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Moroccan Argan Oil. The primer I use is also from The Ordinary, it’s the High-Adherence Silicone Primer – I love that primer so much, it really makes a HUGE difference in the longevity of my makeup.

Base

I usually like to wear a little foundation and concealer on an everyday basis, because my skin gets quite irritated during the day, so to even out my skin tone I use the L’Oréal Paris – Infaillible Foundation Stick and the L’Oréal Paris – Infaillable 24h Concealer Pomade. I usually blend it in with a damp beauty blender by Real Techniques. I also always spritz my face with one to two pumps of NYX – Dewy Finish Setting Spray. I used to only use it at the end, but using it with the “liquids” in the beginning makes the makeup even more long-lasting. To set my foundation and concealer in place I use the Maybelline – Masterfix Baking + Brightening Powder in Banana all over my face. If you don’t have a yellow undertone in your complexion the translucent powder might be a better choice for you.

Shape, Color & Highlight

As for my bronzer and blush I like to stick to non shimmery based products, because I do really think that matte products last a lot longer. I use the Benefit – Hoola Bronzer and the Maybelline – Dream Matte Blush in Flirty Pink. Most days I skip highlighter, especially on my really long College and work days, simply because I do tend to get a little bit oily and shiny throughout the day, and to avoid being a complete shiny mess I tend to skip highlighter. But for my shorter days I always use the MAC – Mineralize Skin Finish in Soft & Gentle.

Brows & Eyes

My eyeshadow routine changes everyday. It usually depends on how much time I have in the morning, where I’ll be at and how long I’ll be out. But for basic days I like to use one single eyeshadow all over my eye blended out and also a little bit of it under the eye. For that I am currently using the L’Oréal Paris – Havana Camila Cabello Eyeshadow in Control. But, on days where I feel a little more daring, I like to pop on some color and for that I am currently using the NYX – Ultimate Shadow Palette in Brights. As for my mascara I always use a waterproof one, I love the L’Oréal Paris – Paradise Extactic Mascara. For my brows I usually stick to the L’Oréal Paris – Brow Artist Xpert in Cool Blonde and just fill them in with a light hand.

To set my phase I use the NYX – Dewy Finish Setting Spray, again.

Lips

Now, my lip color changes everyday. But here are my top 3 choices at the moment:

My Last Year of College

In today’s blog post I am going to touch on some things I felt while entering the last final year of College being a bachelor degree student. While I have been studying for a lot longer than the usual student, I have quite a lot of mixed feel considering my last year.

But first, let me get started with the beginning of my college journey.

In October 2013 I’ve started college, I had English as my mayor and History as a minor. I quickly realized that History wasn’t for me, so I switch to Linguistics. After failing miserably for three consecutive semesters, always with the hope of getting better, I decided to switch one last time. I applied for German as my mayor at my College and I got in.

Since October 2015 I am studying German as my major and English as my minor and that has been one of the best decision I have made in my college experience. Not only was I finally able to just do the courses I was good in, but I also got motivated again to go to College and actually attended the courses. After my first semester I fell ill, and had to dial back on College stuff so that I wasn’t able to finish in the regular time. But I think that’s okay, I believe your health is more important than that.

After I got better I decided to change my life around. To change the things that I believed made me sick as well as trying to be a happier and healthier person. I also wanted to use my motivation for school to try and find out what I eventually want to do with my degree. And in the beginning of this year, I decided that I am not willing to leave College just yet. That I enjoy it. So I decided that I want to do my master as well.

Now that my plan for after my bachelor’s degree is all set, I want to touch on what I’m feeling about my last year as a student. As a bachelor’s student – at least.

I’m feeling mixed feelings about it to be completely honest with you. While I’m excited for a new and fresh start I’m also sad, since I will probably leaving my College I am at right now, and I have built so many great friendships and memories here. But I guess with evolving you kind of have to leave some things behind. I’m also thankful, thankful for the opportunities that have arisen out of my experiences, thankful for the person I am today and much more.

This year, a lot of things changed for me. Personally and College-wise, but it only got better. I didn’t start my journey thinking I would end up being, well happy?! I never knew what I wanted, or at least I told myself that. And now, while I learn what my strengths are and I step out of my comfort zone, I realize what I can and what I want to do. All possibilities are open for me, I just have to work hard enough and realize that if I want something it won’t just fall into my lap, that I actually have to work to achieve something. And while doing so it is the greatest feeling in the world if you actually reach your goals.

My last summer was filled to the brim with work for College. I had to write three papers simultaneously as well as prepare an oral exam. While the old-me would have crumbled under the pressure and probably would have given up, I have risen above it, and even surprised myself by doing it all, with just one minor freak-out right before the submission of the last two papers (which FYI was in the same week).

The upcoming semester will be filled with a lot of courses for my minor and I can’t wait for them. I only have two papers left and a test and hopefully (fingers crossed!) I am able to register my bachelor thesis in early 2019. I also started working at my College as a student helper, and so far I’ve been really enjoying it and I feel like it is a good opportunity to gain some work experience as well as learn new things and step out of my comfort zone.

My last year of College will hopefully be filled with lots of fun, new experiences and will hopefully be as much part of my journey as the past nine months has been in my personal life. Moving Out – My Experience and Tips!

Fall is a season of change, literally. But for a lot of young adults out there who are just graduating from school are facing so many new things. One of them might be moving out of their parents home.

Moving out is scary. Trust me, I know.

But it is also one of the coolest things ever and will be something that you’ll remember, because it is such a big change in your life.

I moved out exactly two years ago and while in the beginning I might have been a little homesick, I quickly started to love living on my own. I love the freedom that comes with it, which is also one of the parts that make it the hardest. I guess, there’s a price for everything (like, you have to pay for everything, stuff you didn’t even thought about).

I’m living in my hometown and commute to work and college. It’s just way cheaper where I live than in the big city, so I gladly take the train for about two hours. I rather save money than live in a small apartment where I wouldn’t be happy, just to be closer. But everybody is different in this. I always enjoyed the quiet and landscape that comes with my home, but there are a lot of people who enjoy being closer to college and their job, which I get, especially on those days when the trains are delayed. I will move out of my hometown eventually, but for now I am enjoying the comfort of my home.

What have I learned since moving out?

Well, what haven’t I? Haha xD Just kidding, I’m learning everyday. I learned that I like a clean apartment, but that is just not always achievable. I learned that I DO NOT like washing the dishes, but a dish washer is expensive, so I have to deal with that. I learned that I love having my friends over and I love the freedom that comes with it. I don’t have to ask permission for them to come over, they just come whenever they want to. There are so many things I could list…

But most important I learned the value of self-care, appreciating what you have and that working hard for something pays off. Since I’ve moved out I tried to better myself everyday. I try to eat healthier, exercise regularly, have a schedule and be more positive and choose happiness.

Two years, in which I have grown so immensely. Two years, that have shaped me as an adult as well as a woman. If you are scared of moving out: BE IT. Because being scared or intimidated doesn’t mean that you’re weak, it means that what is coming is a big thing that will change your life and that is scary. But also, be excited. Excited for all the great things and new experiences.

My tips for you.

Move out when you’re ready. I know that sometimes that isn’t possible, but if you have the opportunity to stay home or even close to home, do it. For your own good.

Make a list. Moving out inquires a lot of planning and new things. So it is helpful to write list of what you will need to buy and need to do, like completing insurances and all that.

Save up money. Moving is expensive, and moving out of your parents house is even more expensive, because you will have to buy a lot of stuff. Always plan in a little more money than you think you will need, just to be safe. And also write down two lists: one for the necessities that you’ll need and one for things you want to have. And tick of all the things you actually need first.

Do not stress. It won’t be a smooth ride. In the first few weeks it will be hard to find your routine. It will get tricky if something has to get done and you have to deal with it. Don’t stress about it, everyone is or was at that point in some time in their life.

Socialize, but also take time for yourself. Moving out is one thing, but moving out from your parents to life on your own is such a different world. So socialize, with friends, your family or just take up a new hobby. Make sure that you’ll take on something that keeps you busy. But also take time for yourself. Self care is so important, especially when you have to deal with a lot of new things.
