Four TV Shows with Bad Fourth Seasons Part One

There appears to be a pattern in television entertainment that some series peak in their third season and then plummet in quality in the fourth. I am unsure of when I first noticed this pattern, but once I had recognized it in four of my favorite shows, I decided it was high time to think about it and possible causes and effects. So this is that. Beware, however, that I will talk about these shows in great detail, and not just their third and fourth seasons, but all of them. These “bad” seasons may not be that bad in isolation, so in order to explain what I mean when I call them bad, I have to compare them to the rest of their respective shows. So if you have not watched these shows, or have only watched up until the third season, there will be hard spoilers and you may not want to read. Let’s begin.

4. Teen Wolf

Oh, the beautiful mess that is Teen Wolf. Like two of the other shows on this list, Teen Wolf’s seasons vary in quality. The first season was nice, but still had a rather trashy look, and Tyler Posey as the lead was an undeniably mediocre actor—it didn’t help that his sidekick was Dylan O’Brien, who from his very first moment on screen outdid everybody so clearly it was almost embarrassing. Still, the show had a unique charm and so many beautiful people, I couldn’t stop watching. The second season was already a lot less trashy, but still featured some questionable ideas, such as letting the werewolves run on all fours while still in human form (an idea that looked so stupid it was thankfully abandoned after season 2). It did make some very good decisions, however, such as bringing back Peter, one of the funniest characters (and one who could provide a lot of friction). And then came the third season, which was the best season so far, the second-best season overall and definitely the scariest season. Stiles’s dream sequences in the second half were seriously uncanny, and the whole Nogitsune situation was body horror at its finest. It was exhilarating, complex, devoid of any trashiness, and the writers really went all out on emotional impact, as the death count in this season was higher than in any other. It would have been difficult to continue the series with something even better. But the fourth season made some serious mistakes, and in order to explore what went wrong, I’d like to say a few words on story arcs.

The story arcs of a TV show can span over one season and then be done, or they can be continued over the entire run of the series and be resolved (or not) after several seasons or even at the very end. The advantage of closing a story arc after one season is that it makes writing a season simpler: you present a problem/mystery at the end of the season premiere, and the problem/mystery is solved/revealed in the season finale. That structure gives the story arc a clear direction while still leaving room for interesting action. And if the stakes are high enough that the audience really cares for the problem to be solved and the mystery revealed, then this structure works. And it worked in season 4 of Teen Wolf. The stakes of finding the benefactor were very high, indeed, so lack of caring on the part of the audience was not the problem. The problem was the revelation of who the benefactor was. Seriously? Peter orchestrated the whole thing, but he did it while he was in a coma, so he didn’t remember, and then he stole his own money from himself, and Meredith, the traumatized reclusive, made it all happen? I mean, come on. It seems like the writers had a lot of fun constructing the plot for the season, lost sight of the time, and then had only five minutes left to come up with a resolution and realized they didn’t have one. The only possible resolution that could have been worse was that in the end it was all a dream. Gerard being the benefactor would have made more sense. Kate would have made more sense. Even Meredith on her own would have made more sense. Throw in the stupid idea of de-aged Derek and the convoluted side-plot in which Kate and Peter, the characters who arguably hate each other the most out of all the characters on the show, suddenly start working together, and the season was an overall failure.

It wasn’t all terrible, of course. There was the crucial introduction of some new characters after the numerous departures in the last season, there were some amazing fight scenes, Tyler Posey’s acting had considerably improved. But the main reason why Teen Wolf in only in fourth place, apart from the fact that its fourth season isn’t the worst fourth season on this list, is that the fifth season was much better, and almost as scary as season 3 (even if the writers seemed to have completely forgotten about Peter for an entire season, which admittedly was pretty weak). And the last season was the very best one, even if Dylan O’Brien was absent for a lot of it because of The Maze Runner. The drama of Stiles ceasing to exist, and the panic I felt when that happened, were gripping, and the series ended in the best possible way. After all the supernatural threats the McCall pack had to face, in the end the worst monster of all turned out to be the human being. It was just really good writing. So Teen Wolf’s fourth season was a dip in quality in the middle that it completely recovered from, ending the show on a high.

3. Community

Community is an outlier on this list for several reasons. First, it is a sitcom, not a drama series (and as hilarious as Teen Wolf is, it’s still a forty-minute-drama). Second, because of its difference in genre, it has a completely different structure in terms of story arc. While dramatic shows tend to tell stories that span over several episodes or even seasons, classic sitcom episodes function in a more self-contained way and rarely continue the main plot from one episode into the next one. Even though Community does exactly this at the end of season 2, the plot is only stretched over two episodes (A Fistful of Paintballs, and For a Few Paintballs More), and even between those two episodes, there is a significant tonal difference, as the first one is a homage to classic old Western films, while the second one makes clear and obvious references to Star Wars, complete with Storm Troopers and Abed’s Han Solo outfit. And third, it is the only series on this list with a constantly high quality that experienced only one decline: season 4. Now, first off, not all the episodes were terrible; I liked the Halloween episode, the Thanksgiving episode and the Inspecticon episode, and I thought the attempt at an origin story in the finale was nice. I didn’t hate the puppet episode as much as most do, either. But still, most of this season was dreadful, cringeworthy, and unfunny, most of all the abysmal body-switch episode. There is a clear tonal difference in this season compared to the others that I can’t quite pinpoint, but it is obvious that safe for Jeff, none of the characters develop or change in any way at all, and even Jeff’s change seems rather superficial considering the fact that the half-brother he meets and connects with in the Thanksgiving episode never appears again. The paintball episode was a nice try, but really what the writers did there was an attempt to recapture the brilliance of Remedial Chaos Theory (without question the best episode of the entire show and maybe the best episode of any sitcom ever) that was doomed to fail because they didn’t get it at all. The season 3 episode Remedial Chaos Theory explores seven different possibilities of what could happen, and it uses the roll of a die to lead us through the different timelines. The brilliance of Remedial Chaos Theory is that all of the different timelines actually happened, and all of them gave us as the audience valuable information about every single character. And in the season 4 paintball episode, despite the nice reference to Terminator, nothing actually happens, it is all in Jeff’s head, and the re-introduction of the die made no sense and had no effect, not to mention we didn’t learn anything about anyone.

The reason why this season was so bad is well-known and seated behind the scenes. For some stupid reason, Dan Harmon, the creator and mad genius behind Community (and nowadays, Rick and Morty), was fired after season 3, and then apparently NBC thought anyone could do what Harmon can and hired some replacements for him who wanted to capture the humor and tone of the show and epically failed. In addition, Chevy Chase wanted to leave the show, and that resulted in a lot of scenes where Pierce just wasn’t there and the remaining characters had to laboriously explain his absences. That alone disturbed the comedic rhythm enough that the audience had to notice something was off. And because it must have been so obvious that the show’s quality was rapidly declining, and because the cast complained about Harmon’s departure, Harmon was rehired for season 5, in which Community finally felt like Community again. That season had the most insane episodes—the one where the floor is lava, the MeowMeowBeenz episode (the idea of which allegedly Black Mirror stole for one of its own episodes), and G.I. Jeff. Of course, this season suffered from the departure of Donald Glover, but Harmon turned this massive change into an important character development for Abed. And despite NBC cancelling the show after season 5 and Yahoo!Screen picking it up for a sixth season (and plunging into financial ruin because of it), the last season is beautiful and hilarious and the finale was a real heartbreaker. And as Community has always been extremely self-aware, the finale even contains a reference to the low quality of the fourth season: when Abed mentions the fourth year (the fourth season), Chang farts and then explains that “it’s an inside joke.” May season 4 of Community function as a warning for anyone who thinks humor is easy to replicate.

Movies I am excited for in 2020

Hey my loves,

I love movies, I love going to the cinema and I love a good movie night with my gals. Don’t you? This year I thought it would be fun to share some of the movies I am looking forward to seeing. I always check out the list once a month to find movies I want to watch.

This coming week will be filled with a lot of entertainment content. I really hope you enjoy the extra blog entries.

I have a really long list so I thought I would minimize it to the ten movies I am the most excited about. They pretty spread over the entire year so I have a lot to look forward to. They aren’t in any particular order of which I am most looking forward to see.

My Top 10

Michael B. Jordan in Just Mercy (2019)

Just Mercy

„World-renowned civil rights defense attorney Bryan Stevenson works to free a wrongly condemned death row prisoner.“

I’m really excited about this one, I love Michael B. Jordan and a movie that is based on true events. I’m really looking forward to watching this one and I will try to read the book beforehand as well.

Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, and Margot Robbie in Bombshell (2019)

Bombshell

„A group of women take on Fox News head Roger Ailes and the toxic atmosphere he presided over at the network.“

Again, a movie based on true events and the casting is just absolutely amazing. I’m really intrigued to see this story unfold on the big screen.

Tom Hanks in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2019)

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

„Based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod.“

I mean, Tom Hanks. Do I need more reasoning to watch this movie than that?

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in Bad Boys for Life (2020)

Bad Boys for Life

„The Bad Boys Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett are back together for one last ride in the highly anticipated Bad Boys for Life.“

I’m a sucker for an action movie and I’ve love the other movies so I have to watch it.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Margot Robbie in Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)

Birds of Prey: The Emancipation of Harley Quinn

„After splitting with the Joker, Harley Quinn joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a young girl from an evil crime lord.“

Harley Quinn was by far the best part about Suicide Squad and therefore the only reason for me to even watch Birds of Prey. I just love a good Margot Robbie movie and I really like her interpretation of Harley.

Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds in A Quiet Place: Part II (2020)

A Quiet Place: Part II

„Following the events at home, the Abbott family now face the terrors of the outside world. Forced to venture into the unknown, they realize the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats lurking beyond the sand path.“

When I first watched the initial movie I wasn’t sure if I liked it or not, but after a lot of thoughts and also after re-watching it, I must say, I really like it. And am looking forward to Part 2.

Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick (2020)

Top Gun: Maverick

„After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.“

Tom Cruise is the action man, wouldn’t you agree? I’m really intrigued to see if they how the story unfolds.

Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Wonder Woman 1984

„A sequel to the 2017 superhero film ‘Wonder Woman.“

Gal Gadot. Chris Pine. No more reason than those two.

Scarlett Johansson in Black Widow (2020)

Black Widow

„A film about Natasha Romanoff in her quests between the films Civil War and Infinity War.“

I was waiting for years for a movie about Natasha. I love her character a lot and am really, really excited to see this movie.

Godzilla vs. Kong (2020)

Godzilla vs. Kong

„As the gigantic Kong meets the unstoppable Godzilla, the world watches to see which one of them will become King of the Monsters.“

I really enjoy watching these monster movies. And I am a big fan of Millie Bobby Brown. So intrigued to see what the story will be.

What are some of the movies you look forward to in 2020? I really hope my wallet lets me see all these movies on the big screen. I’m so excited for this years movie. Let me know in the comments, I am always open to suggestions. I also look forward to the new Illegally Blonde movie and The Conjuring 3.

I wish you all a wonderful day.

How to achieve your goals in the New Year

Hey my loves,

In today’s blog post I am going to talk about how you can achieve your New Years goals and what I like to do to make sure I reach mine. If you want to know my goals for 2020 check out my blog post where I talk about them.

“A dream written drown with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by actions makes your dream come true.” – Greg Reid

Here are my five rules that will set you up for success:

Envision your goals clearly.

Before you get started make sure you know what each goal you have entails. Envision it clearly and write it down. This will make it easier in the long run to see what you have to do in the early stages of your goals.

Limit your goals.

Set no more than three to five goals to achieve in a year. Sometimes we underestimate the work that has to go into our goals. So it’s better to have fewer goals than you would think you want to have. If you have achieved all of your goals you can always add more throughout the year. Also, sometimes goals can build on each other. For example, one of my goals is to eat more vegetarian meal throughout the week, another step could be to go completely vegan.

Reason.

Make sure you know why you set your goals. It is much more likely that you achieve your goals if you have emotion and will behind it. You need to make sure you really want to reach your goals and you have to make sure you doing it for you not for anyone else.

Make it a habit.

Identify what you have to do and slowly make it into a habit so that it is not much of a task but rather something you do everyday. I have read somewhere that it takes 21 days to make something a habit, so don’t put yourself down when it doesn’t work right away.

Progress Check-Up.

Check in on your progress once in a while. This will immensely help you actually achieve your goals. You can always change it around a little. Sometimes what we do to achieve our goals need a little adjusting, checking in once in a while makes sure we stay on the right track.

How do you plan on achieving your goals? Let me know in the comments.

I wish you all a wonderful day.

XoXo, Jasmin.

2020 Reading List

Hey my loves,

I don’t know about you, but I love to read. Sadly, I don’t get to read as much as I used to because of the workload I have with College. But, whenever I can I try to get in as much personal reading as I can when I have some free time.

In 2020, I want to read at least 12 books, which means one book per month or however I can fit it in. I thought it would be a great idea to share with you some of the books that made it onto my 2020 reading list.

So far I’ve decided on five books that I want to buy and read. I like to read anything that is a thriller, crime or fantasy, but I also want to branch out a little with some self-help books and non-fictional books. But for now, these are the five books that made it onto my list so far:

Verity by Colleen Hoover

„Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.“

Trace of Evil by Alice Blanchard

„A riveting mystery that introduces a bold and audacious rookie detective assigned to hunt for a killer who is haunted by the past in this gripping murder case…

Natalie Lockhart always knew she was going to be a cop. A rookie detective on the Burning Lake police force, she was raised on the wisdom of her chief-of-police father. These cases will haunt you if you let them. Grief doesn’t come with instructions.

But the one thing her father couldn’t teach her was how to handle loss. Natalie’s beloved sister was viciously murdered as a teenager, and she carries the scars deep in her heart. Although the killer was locked up, the trace evidence never added up, and Natalie can’t help wondering―is the past really behind her?

As the newest member on the force, Natalie is tasked with finding nine missing persons who’ve vanished off the face of the earth, dubbed “the Missing Nine.” One night, while following up on a new lead, she comes across a savage crime that will change everything.

Daisy Buckner―a popular schoolteacher, wife to a cop, and newly pregnant―lies dead on her kitchen floor. As Natalie hunts for Daisy’s killer in the wake of the town’s shock, her search leads to a string of strange clues―about the Missing Nine, about Daisy’s secret life, and reviving fresh doubts about her sister’s murder.

As the investigation deepens, Natalie’s every move risks far-reaching consequences―for the victims, for the town of Burning Lake, and for herself.“

The Dead Girls Club by Damien Angelica Walters

„A supernatural thriller in the vein of A Head Full of Ghosts about two young girls, a scary story that becomes far too real, and the tragic–and terrifying–consequences that follow one of them into adulthood.

Red Lady, Red Lady, show us your face…

In 1991, Heather Cole and her friends were members of the Dead Girls Club. Obsessed with the macabre, the girls exchanged stories about serial killers and imaginary monsters, like the Red Lady, the spirit of a vengeful witch killed centuries before. Heather knew the stories were just that, until her best friend Becca began insisting the Red Lady was real–and she could prove it.

That belief got Becca killed.

It’s been nearly thirty years, but Heather has never told anyone what really happened that night–that Becca was right and the Red Lady was real. She’s done her best to put that fateful summer, Becca, and the Red Lady, behind her. Until a familiar necklace arrives in the mail, a necklace Heather hasn’t seen since the night Becca died.

The night Heather killed her.

Now, someone else knows what she did…and they’re determined to make Heather pay.“

33369264

Blackout by Marc Elsberg

„A terrifyingly plausible, million-copy selling debut about an international blackout perpetrated by a hacker attack.

One night, the lights go out across Europe. The electrical grids collapse on an epic scale and unleash a devastating chaos in the total blackout. And unbeknownst to the general population, nuclear reactors are starting to overheat…

When a former hacker and activist who knows a thing or two about infiltrating networks starts investigating the cause of this disaster, he soon becomes a prime suspect. As threats to the United States start to emerge, he goes on the run with a young American reporter based in Paris, racing desperately to turn the lights back on. Because if they stay off, tomorrow may be too late.“

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Mark Manson

„In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be “positive” all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people.

For decades, we’ve been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. “F**k positivity,” Mark Manson says. “Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it.” In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn’t sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is—a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let’s-all-feel-good mindset that has infected American society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.“

I am always open for more book recommendations so if you have any book that you think I would love let me know in the comments.

I wish you all a wonderful day!

My 2020 Goals

Hey my loves,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Can you believe it? A new freaking decade.

Last year I did not share my resolutions with you, but this year I thought it would be fun to share my 2020 goals with you. I believe a new year gives us the opportunity to start fresh and to try to better ourselves. I also believe it does not need to be the start of a new year to do so. Do whatever you want and makes you happy!

My goals for this year are goals I already started working on in the end of last year, some of them are things that are always on my list, some are new. I don’t think we’re ever done improving ourselves.

My Goals

I want to be more aware of our world. I want to do everything I can to help to improve it, even the smallest things matter and everyone can do something. I will try to be more conscious when I go grocery shopping I want to minimize my single plastic use as much as my wallet let’s me do it and I want to eat less meat. I already am 30%-ish vegetarian, but I want to try to get this number up to at least 50%.

I want to use my time on this earth. I want to give back and I want to enjoy myself a little more. In 2020 I want to be a little more adventurous and take more day trips or little vacations. I want to explore as much as I can and I want to experience new things. I also want to give back to the community. In the new year, I will try to find something where I can do something that helps the less fortunate. I have little myself, but you can always find something to give back.

I want to improve my health. 2019 has been a struggle of a year for me, mentally and physically. In 2020 I want to take charge of my body and mind. I already am watching what I eat, but I want to include more exercise and more positive things to better my mental health. I want to take care of myself.

I feel like these are pretty good goals for myself in 2020. Achievable goals, I think, at least. What are your resolutions/goals for the new year? Let me know in the comments. I would really love to know.

I wish you all a wonderful first month of 2020 and lots of love and laughter.

XoXo, Jasmin.

My 2019 Highlight Reel

Hey my loves,

Oh my god, 2019 is ending today. I cannot believe how quickly this year has passed. I noticed that the older I get the faster time passes. I wonder why that is…

But another new beginning means saying goodbye to a great 365 days of laughter, love, crying, good and bad days and so much more. And I for one am a sucker for a highlight reel. What about you?

So much happened this year, sometimes you don’t even realize how much can happen in twelve months until you look back. 2019 has been a year with a lot of highs and a lot of lows. But I feel like what would you learn from life without the lows, right? It’s how you deal with them. Now, let’s take a look at some of my 2019 highlights.

January to March

In the beginning of the year I took some much needed time away from social media, which I used to focus that time on myself and my needs. I went to a masters fair to see if I find a masters program which would suit me. I did, but that turned to something I will probably touch on some time in the new year.

I also managed to take an exam I have been dreading to do again. I was so anxious to fail it again, because a lot was resting on that one exam and I don’t do good in exams. Honestly, I can write one paper after the other or multiple ones at the same time, but one exam gives me so much anxiety. But, I PASSED.

I ticked something of my bucket list in March of 2019, which was to go to my homelands capital. I always wanted to go, because I feel like it’s something everyone should experience and I really wanted to see some of the historical sights. If you want to know more about my trip to Berlin, check out my blog post here.

April to June

The three months of April to June was focusing a lot of time and energy of writing my bachelor thesis. I wrote it while I still had to attend a lot of courses and working my part time job, so it was a struggle to say the least, but one that was so worth it. I also finished it a week or so earlier than I had to which gave me time to really proof read it and put some finishing touches on.

In June I also became an aunt for the second time to a beautiful boy, who is just the absolute cutest little human being you have ever seen.

July to September

Time to hand in my thesis. I will never forget how jittery, excited and full of fear I was while I handing in my thesis. One life changing moment right there. The wait for my grade was absolute hell, but in the end I was so happy to have passed and get my degree. Best years of my life, so far.

I needed a little vacation after my hell of a semester so I went to stay with my family in southern Germany. I had the best few days and felt really rejoiced when I got back. I also decided to re-do my entire apartment, because I felt like it was time for a change.

If you want to see my new apartment check out theses blog post:

My Office Makeover

My Living Room Makeover

October to December

I had a super fun photoshoot day with my best friend in October where we not only took some of my favorite pictures but also got to explore a side of Düsseldorf, which we have never been to. It was so much fun, sometimes just exploring makes me the happiest. To see some of the pictures, go check out my Instagram.

For my birthday this year I didn’t want to host a party, so instead I went to a theater piece. We saw a postmodern version of Hamlet which was phenomenal. It was so fun, exciting and full of life. We immediately decided that we had to see 1984 with the same musical director and actor as well.

I also went onto a really funny trip with my grandma and her mates. It was such a weird and funky day, because I was literally the youngest person on that trip, but honestly, I had a blast. And I love spending quality time with my granny.

2019 has been absolutely life changing. I am officially done with my Bachelor degree, I almost finished my apartment to the extend I want and I had lots of fun days with friends and family. I am grateful for all of my blessings and I cannot wait what the new decade will bring.

2020 is gonna be great.

I wish you all a wonderful day and a save and fun New Year’s Eve.

How to make the most of a cold day

Hey my loves,

Winter means a lot of things – cozy sweaters, time with your loved ones, festive music and so much more. But it’s also the season of cold, rainy and snowy days and sometimes you don’t want to get out on those days, because you rather stay inside.

But what could you do to brighten up those days? Well, let me tell you what I do.

Get into the comfiest clothes. Make some hot tea or cocoa.

Speed Cleaning

The first thing I like to do on those rainy days is to speed clean my apartment. I know, sounds not so fun, but honestly starting your day with a task like this will make you feel like you accomplished something that day.

Hearty Breakfast or Brunch

After I like to make myself some hot coffee or tea, whatever I fancy that day and most likely will even spend a little more time on my breakfast. I’ve been loving oatmeal with a banana and cinnamon lately, so I will likely make that.

Spending quality time with friends

If I don’t have anything to do for the blog or Uni I like to call up friends and ask if they want to hang out, because let’s be honest watching a movie or cooking food with friends is just so much more fun. I love playing board games with my friends and am currently building an awesome collection of games.

Festive movies or TV shows

I put on a Christmas movie or a show I am currently watching. Recently I’ve been loving Somewhere Between and V Wars, really into both for some reason. Or Virgin River. But, if I am being honest I am just waiting for the next season of You. I freaking love that show. What are some of your favorite TV shows at the moment? Let me know. I’m always intrigued to try something new.

Self Care

If I have put something on I have already seen I most likely paint my nails or do some light brain storming or spend my time on Instagram. At some point or the other I get bored so I will switch up what I am doing, I love reading so I sometimes will read a couple of pages of the book I am reading. But, I also love doing an extended skin care routine. Check out my latest entries: My Skincare Routine and Best Beauty Buys in Winter

Baking and Cooking Comfort Food

I love baking, especially around Christmas time.

I’ve recently started a new thing on my Instagram called Monday Cravings where I share my favorite recipes. Check out my first two IGTVs for some inspiration for some great cookie recipes. @thedawnofinspiration

After baking and cooking I always end up on my couch watching a movie I haven’t yet seen. Sometimes, when I am not in the mood to watch anything, I just love to watch YouTube videos or learn to play the guitar.

What are some of your tips to make the most of a cold day? Let me know in the comments.

I wish you all a wonderful day.

XoXo, Jasmin.

Christmas Gift Guide

Hey my loves,

With Christmas just around the corner I thought it would be the perfect time to talk about some gift giving. I love Christmas so much, it’s just something about this season that feels so special and full of love. In today’s blog post I am going to talk about the best Christmas gifts for your friends, family and co-workers.

This year I decided to skip my annual Christmas Dinner with all of my friends and instead donate half the money I would have spent instead. I donated it to an organization of my choice. I also put a little bit of money aside for something that needs a little more saving.

Gifts Under 20 Bucks

I believe that a gift has to come from the heart and does not need to be excessively expensive, but I am also a gift giver who always gives more than I have to. But, there are some great options out there for your loved ones that are under 20 bucks.

100 Movies Scratch Off Poster

This gift is perfect for any movie lover you might now and it’s super affordable, you could even get a nice frame for it and it would still be under 20 bucks.

Game of Phones

In this day and age we all have a phone on us, so why not make a game out of it. This is the perfect gift for one of your friends or your family. You can play it on the day of your gift giving and I know I am always a good sucker for a funny game. My other favorites are: What do you meme?, Cards Against Humanity or Pictionary.

Urban Map Glass

We all know at least one person who loves a good drink. This glass is perfect for those people. Not only can you pick a city they may have been to, but it’s also super cute to look at.

Books

I love giving books as presents. Whether it being a favorite of mine or a book they mentioned they wanted to read. Or just a simple notebook, where they can write down their thoughts. Here are some great book gift ideas:

Gifts over 20 Bucks

Sometimes you want to splurge a little bit on the people you care about. Here are some great gift ideas for you:

Echo Dot

I bought myself a couple on Black Friday and I just love them. The quality of the speaker is really good and it comes with some great features. Perfect for any tech obsessed person.

Kindle

Sometimes people prefer to read on a Kindle, because it is lighter and easier to transport than a book. It especially great for people who are traveling a lot or a commute to work. It takes little to no space in any purse or backpack.

Essential Oil Diffuser – Humidifier

This one is so cute in its pineapple form. Perfect for anyone who loves to spice up their apartment and loves to use a humidifier.

Fujifilm – Instax Mini 9 Instant Camera

Perfect gift for anyone who loves to capture moments.

Other Gift Ideas

I also love giving things that cost little to no money at all. Whether it being a self-made voucher or baking some cookies. It’s the thought behind a gift not the gift itself that should matter. I also think a great way to gift a person is by donating money in their name to an organization they care about.

What are your gifting this year? Let me know in the comments. I would love to know.

I wish you all a wonderful day.

How I reorganized my life

Hey my loves,

y’all the past few months have been absolutely insane and when it was all over I was totally lost. Not in the sense of what I wanted to do, but more like I felt my life was in so many pieces simply because my home felt extremely cluttered and left behind.

So not only did I decided to redo my apartment, but also clean out a lot of stuff. If you have missed my past entries I’ve written about my Living Room and Office Makeover. Check them out!

Now that everything is done I feel so calm and at peace. And all I did were 2 simple things. TWO! Can you believe it? Well, here’s what I did.

DECLUTTER

I decluttered my office area, my cellar, my kitchen and my wardrobe. I started by throwing out old College stuff I would never need anymore continued by a lot of papers that I will truly never look at. I then continued to just declutter all of the little office bits: I went through all of my pens and looked if they were still working and thrown the ones out that wouldn’t work.

I also put all my files in a pile so I could reorganize them later. I did the same thing with all of my College books which were laying all over my apartment. In my cellar I declutter all of the things I hold on to thinking I might need them one day, after three years I haven’t so they ended up in the trash. My kitchen was another decluttering task: I threw out and gave away some of my things that I never needed and also decluttered my pantry.

I then proceeded with my wardrobes. I had so many clothes I wasn’t even wearing or weren’t even fitting me anymore. I ended up with two and half bags of clothes that I gave to a friend who went through it and gave the rest to charity. One whole bag was trash, which I still can’t believe what my mindset there was, but well, it happened. I got rid of it. So nevermind?! Haha. xD

ORGANIZE

After decluttering I needed to organize all my stuff. I started off with organizing all of my files and the stuff I actually kept from College. I put them in folders where I labeled each thing as well as put them in my new office space. I then reorganized my book shelves and sorted them in categories and then again within these categories I sorted them alphabetically after author names (yeah, I know, I’m a little crazy).

I also reorganized my entire bathroom. For that I bought some dividers for my drawers, as well as a makeup storage from IKEA. I also reorganized my entire kitchen with the help of my auntie and some bits from IKEA. I bought several of the white boxes to organize my pantry, as well as some plate dividers.

I’m so in love with how my place is looking right now and I feel super ready to start a new chapter in my life in October. I can’t wait for all the things that are up for me.

Also, some super exciting news: As of this week I am officially an Everyday Role Model for My Need to Live. My Office Makeover

Hey my loves,

a couple of days ago I talked about my living room makeover and there I mentioned that my office is now in the bedroom. I’ve created a little area in my bedroom to hold a small office, so that when I have people over and am in the midst of a paper or else I don’t have to worry about the mess. It’s also nice to have a area that is a designated office.

The Before

Unorganized & Messy

My bedroom was painted in a dark brown when I took it over and since I hated that color I decided to rip the wallpaper off and replace it with a dusty rose wallpaper, making one wall the focus since the other side is completely covered in my wardrobe.

Like I mentioned before, my office used to be in my living room and I did not have enough storage space. As you can see I only had a table top and one ALEX drawer from IKEA. So I always had everything out.

The space where my office is now used to be a makeup area, which was there for probably a month before the shelves fell off the wall. Then I bought a dark MALM drawer chest from IKEA, but never really used it.

As soon as I knew that I would create a little space for my office I was so sure that I would get rid of that dresser, but as it turns out I actually can put it to good use. It now resides in my hallway and functions as a storage unit for my scarves, extra socks, loungewear and extra bits.

Since I knew what I wanted for my office space I actually did not create a mood board. I knew I wanted a new table top and legs, because my old ones just used up too much space. I had these: Lerberg Legs (in white). I also knew that I needed some form of storage and room divider. And finally I knew I wanted black accents with office organizers, my office lamp was already black. I have the FORSA desk lamp. I also am pretty happy with my wallpaper so I definitely did not need to change anything major in the bedroom itself.

I also didn’t want to spend a whole lot of money, so everything I got was from IKEA and it works perfectly with the things I already had. Which were the white ALEX chest of drawers, a black table desk lamp, two magazine collectors and storage bins for the KALLAX shelf.

The After

Here is everything I added and changed up:

I’m so excited to really use my office as soon as Uni starts again. I can’t wait to get back to the grind.

I wish you all a wonderful day!
