My Top 10 Movies of 2019

Hey my loves,

On Sunday I shared my top ten movies I am excited for in 2020, so I thought it was only fitting to talk about ten movies I have seen in 2019 that were my highlights of the year. These are only movies I’ve seen in the cinema, so if you want I could make a Netflix highlight reel, too. Just let me know in the comments.

The movies are not in any order only in order of their release. But if I had one movie that I loved it would a hundred percent be Joker.

Top 10 Movies 2019

Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, and James McAvoy in Glass (2019)

Glass

„Security guard David Dunn uses his supernatural abilities to track Kevin Wendell Crumb, a disturbed man who has twenty-four personalities.“

One of the best movies I have seen in 2019 for sure. I love the entire storyline and James McAvoy was brilliant. His portrayal of the endless personalities are absolutely amazing. If you haven’t seen this movie or the previous one you should. Split and Unbreakable are truly good as well.

Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Djimon Hounsou, Clark Gregg, Brie Larson, Stan Lee, Rune Temte, Gemma Chan, and Algenis Perez Soto in Captain Marvel (2019)

Captain Marvel

„Carol Danvers becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.“

I really had high hopes for this movie. Brie Larson is one of the best actresses out there. And I was not disappointed, the movie was fun and entertaining. If you aren’t a fan of the marvel universe, give this movie a try anyway. A strong female leading character and a really nice storyline.

Lupita Nyong'o in Us (2019)

Us

„A family’s serene beach vacation turns to chaos when their doppelgängers appear and begin to terrorize them.“

Get Out was one of the best horror movies I’ve seen in 2017, so I was really hyped about another movie by Jordan Peele. Us is intriguing, chilling and surprisingly terrorizing. And boy I did not see that ending coming. Really would recommend to watch this one.

Don Cheadle, Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Bradley Cooper, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Brie Larson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Danai Gurira, and Karen Gillan in Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Avengers: Endgame

„After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to reverse Thanos’ actions and restore balance to the universe.“

As you might have noticed I am a big Marvel fan. I have been hooked on the movies ever since the first Avenger movie and honestly have seen any movie since. But man, Avengers: Endgame had me on the edge of my seat and crying. I knew something bad was about to happen but they did it so good. I won’t spoil even though I think it is super unlikely that anybody not know what I am talking about.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

Godzilla II: King of the Monsters

„The crypto-zoological agency Monarch faces off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah.“

I love a good monster fantasy movie. And Godzilla II did not disappoint whatsoever. I really enjoyed this movie and its effect and am highly excited about the new one in 2020. Also, can we talk about Millie Bobby Brown? She is so great. I love her.

Nicholas Hoult, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Evan Peters, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, and Tye Sheridan in Dark Phoenix (2019)

X-Men: Dark Phoenix

„Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix, causing the X-Men to decide if her life is worth more than all of humanity.“

So, this movie is in my highlights, because I love Sophie Turner, but I do have to admit I had higher hopes for this one. It was still great though, but I wished the story wasn’t as predictable and sometimes a little to stretched. But the X-Men Franchise is one of my faves so got to respect the work!

Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)

Spider-Man: Far from Home

„Following the events of Avengers: Endgame (2019), Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.“

Peter Parker, he is just too damn cute not to watch. Also, it was the movie after Endgame so it was a MUST to see. We had to know what would happen, right? I loved it. His humor the twist, the entire story line. Just appreciating the light and airy work.

Andie MacDowell, Henry Czerny, Adam Brody, Nicky Guadagni, John Ralston, Elyse Levesque, Melanie Scrofano, Mark O'Brien, Kristian Bruun, Samara Weaving, Daniela Barbosa, Celine Tsai, and Hanneke Talbot in Ready or Not (2019)

Ready or Not

„A bride’s wedding night takes a sinister turn when her eccentric new in-laws force her to take part in a terrifying game.“

This one was so much fun! I watched it at a film festival with one of my best friends and we had such a good time with the movie. It is about so much more than just a game and the characters were hilarious. Really enjoyed it and would highly recommend!

Bill Skarsgård in It Chapter Two (2019)

It: Chapter 2

„Twenty-seven years after their first encounter with the terrifying Pennywise, the Losers Club have grown up and moved away, until a devastating phone call brings them back.“

The entire movie was freaking awesome! I loved the original and the remake and the casting is just perfect. The child actors are unbelievably good and the older ones just portrayed the effects of what happened to them so amazingly well. It was worth every second!

Joaquin Phoenix in Joker (2019)

Joker

„In Gotham City, mentally troubled comedian Arthur Fleck is disregarded and mistreated by society. He then embarks on a downward spiral of revolution and bloody crime. This path brings him face-to-face with his alter-ego: the Joker.“

Now, I honestly can say, hands down, that Joker was one of the BEST movie I have seen in my entire life. It left my in absolute awe and shock. I did not know what to expect when I was going in, but man, it was so good. At more than one time in the movie I was actually sitting there with my mouth opened stunned at Phoenix’s performance as Arthur. It was chilling and it truly made me think about our society a lot afterwards.

What were your 2019 movie highlights? I would love to know, write your top 3 in my comments.

I wish you all a wonderful day!
