Hey my loves,
in today’s blog post I am going to talk about the Lip Kits from the Maybelline x Gigi Hadid collaboration. I have bought two shades that I thought would suit me and which I had some kind of interest in. I bought Taura and Erin.
First of all, let’s talk about the formula and how they apply.
When I first applied them, I’m going to be honest, I did not like them at all. It felt super thick and too creamy. I tried to wear it for a good couple of hours, but took it off after an hour, because it felt like it was smudging and not holding on to my lips. Which in a way, was true, it faded quite a lot, but down to an amount of lipstick that did not feel heavy.
A week later I decided to give it another try, and changed up a few things. I did not apply the liner to my entire lip, instead I just lined them. And I used a brush to apply the lipstick itself. In that way I could control the amount of product I was putting on. And guess what, I quite enjoyed it. They won’t be my favorite, because I still don’t feel like they’re the best formula, but for the most part they are wearable.
Erin was not what I expected when it arrived. And sadly I do think I cannot pull this color off. Its something about the under-color that does not suit my skin color, or at least that’s what I think. So I swatch it on the back of my hand and on my lips for you, so that you can make up your own opinion.
When I swatched it on the back of my hand I thought it looked like a pretty chocolate-y brown with a light purple under-tone, but somehow it was way darker on my lips. See:
The purple under-tones show up way more, I think, and I personally would have preferred it, when the chocolate-y brown was showing more. But all in all, the lipstick is applying thick, but smoothly and the color packs on quite good.
Taura disappointed me a lot when it arrived, but mainly because my expectations of the color were different. The picture that I had seen online showed a nude color that was one to two shades darker than what Taura actually looks like on the lips. And I think you can see the difference in the tones in the swatches.
Here it is the nude that looks like the pictures I’ve seen and also is a lot warmer in the shade. But when you apply it to the lips it is lighter. See:
And again, I don’t know if it is my skin tone or the formula, but I personally think that the two swatches look different even though it is the same lipstick.
All in all, I’m on the fence about the Lip Kit, while I really hoped to like it, I was quite disappointed by them. But then again, it could just be my personal preferences and skin tone.
I hope you enjoyed today’s entry and I wish you all a wonderful day!
